Stan becomes a laughingstock following an embarrassing incident at a new neighbor's pool party. So he packs up the family, burns down the house and they leave Langley Falls in the middle of the night to become vagabonds.

Stan's rich half-brother, Rusty (voice of Lou Diamond Phillips) visits for Thanksgiving. Rusty turns out to be richer than Stan thought he was, leading to something other than brotherly love. Ed Asner provides the voice of Grandpa Smith.
Roger passes lethal gas into the Smith house, necessitating an evacuation to a hotel while the fumes clear. Francine befriends the concierge (voice of Hector Elizondo), and soon finds herself working in the construction business.
Roger moves out after disagreements with Stan and soon discovers that he has been replaced, leading to a battle with his replacement for Stan's favor. Meanwhile, Steve gets a job at school that enables him to promote himself over the PA system.
Steve's friend Snot falls for Steve's Jersey-girl cousin---who's actually Roger in drag. It seems that Steve and Roger want to help Snot get over Hayley, who spurned his advances. Meanwhile, Stan decides to imitate the early-1960s "Mad Men" lifestyle.
