Chris Harrison is Host of TV Guide Network’s daily one-hour entertainment news show, HOLLYWOOD 411. Harrison began his television career by covering local sports in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Dallas, Texas native went to Oklahoma City University on a soccer scholarship and then made the natural transition to sportscasting with a local station. During his six years there, he worked his way up the ranks from part-time sportscaster to weekend sportscaster. He also had the opportunity to cover hard news stories, including the 1995 tragedy at the Federal Building, an event which profoundly affected his perspective on life and career.

A visit to L.A. in 1999 for an audition for a horseracing network led to a permanent move. Later that year, Harrison landed the job as host of HGTV's “Designer's Challenge.” Now in its sixth year, it has consistently been one of the network's highest rated shows. In 2001 he became host of ABC's hit romance/reality series “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.”

Harrison continues to advance in the entertainment industry through a variety of professional endeavors. He co-hosted E!'s 2006 coverage of the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes, and this year will co-host the TV Guide Network’s coverage of the 2008 Golden Globes and Oscars. He will continue to host the Citrus Bowl Parade on ABC stations throughout the country in December of this year, an event he also hosted in 2006. In 2004 he hosted the Miss America Pageant for ABC.

The versatile Harrison has done his fair share of acting as well, having garnered roles in the popular television series “Alias,” “The Practice,” “Six Feet Under” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” His feature film appearances include “Bounce,” “Showtime” and, most recently, portraying himself in the comedy “Date Movie.” In his spare time, Harrison still plays soccer and has become addicted to golf. He has developed a great appreciation for the weather and lifestyle of Southern California, and spends as much time as possible outdoors with his college sweetheart and wife of 14 years, Gwen, six-year-old son Joshua and three-year-old daughter Taylor.

  • The Bachelor Episode Recap: February 23, 2009 | TV Show Recaps | 2/24/2009
I wasn't sure whether to recap this week's women-tell-all episode, because it had kind of a potluck feel: Taking a break from the drama unfolding between Jason, Molly, and Melissa, the show looked back on some past seasons and the unbelievable (read: not unbelievable) antics that haven't made it into this arc's regular episodes. read more 43 Comments
  • Chris Harrison Looking for a New Bachelorette | Today's News: Our Take | 11/17/2008
It's a good time to be a Bachelorette: ABC's hit series is conducting its first search for a female star of the hit series, after years of choosing her from among the contestants who don't find a love connection on The Bachelor. Chris Harrison, the host of both shows, talked to us recently about the search, and about the next season of The Bachelor, which returns with a two-hour premiere on Jan. 5. In another first, the women will compete for the affections of a single dad, last season's The Bachelorette runner-up Jason Mesnick. DeAnna Pappas rejected him in favor of snowboarder Jesse Csincsak, but the couple's relationship, alas, has come to an end. The happily married Harrison, who also co-hosts Hollywood 411 on the TV Guide Network, talked about DeAnna and Jesse, whether you can find true love on TV, and whether we'll ever see a gay Bachelor or Bachelorette. read more 27 Comments

  • May 22, 2007: The Aftermath | TV Show Recaps | 5/23/2007
After 10 seasons of The Bachelor and three seasons of The Bachelorette, Chris Harrison informed us tonight that only four couples are still together. In addition to our newest couple, Charlie and Sarah are happily living together in Los Angeles; Byron and Mary are cozy in Texas and will wed in the fall; while Trista and Ryan have been married for four years and are expecting a little one at the end of the summer. And on a bittersweet note, my favorite bachelor of all time, Andrew Firestone, recently proposed to his girlfriend, which sadly means he is once again off the market. In years past, the reunion show meant we got to see all of the ladies one last time, as they rehashed their feelings with one another and fired uncomfortable questions at the bachelor. Tonight's gathering was much smaller and much more subdued, as we were only privy to seeing five of the original 25 women from this season. Amber, Danielle and Steph T. were the first three to grace the stage with Chris. As ... read more
  • November 20, 2006: The Women Tell All | TV Show Recaps | 11/21/2006
A note to The Bachelor producers: This show could be so much better if we saw more of the “real” footage we’re supposed to be seeing on a reality show. It was so much more entertaining watching Lorenzo make up words and swat wasps and say “I think it’s a cow penis” than seeing him whip out one sappy line after the next. Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe people can genuinely fall in love on this show because they’re manipulated by all the romantic surroundings (Rome, a castle, fireworks, hot tubs, a private opera, diamond earrings, and beds covered in rose petals just to name a few). But then we see the raw footage of them being goofy and romantic without the forced cheesiness, and it explains how it actually is possible. So please, if you want better ratings and a more satisfied audience, show us more of the good stuff and less of the stuff that makes me roll my eyes. Oh, and one more thing — please pay for Agnese to take a few Engli... read more
