Celebrity

I think for ABC's next ...

Question: I think for ABC's next edition of Dancing with the Stars, they should have all-celebrity teams and have them coached by a professional dancer. It would be a lot more fun to have inexperienced celebrities who don't know each other teamed as partners to see how well they perform. And if ABC doesn't ditch all the fluff in this show (C'mon, two hours long? Please!) I won't watch it. (I basically TiVo it now and skip most of it anyways, but it's still a time killer.)
Answer: If ever a show was made for the DVR era, it's Dancing with the Stars. Those last few installments were painfully stretched out — you're not kidding. (Watching in real time was never an option.) But I can't agree with your proposal to "fix" what ain't broken. Part of the appeal of Dancing with the Stars (and to a much lesser degree, Skating with Celebrities) is in watching these quasi-famous folks learn the moves by dancing alongside pros, who can challenge them to raise their game, which in the best instances

Dancing with the Stars Parts...

Dancing with the Stars Parts of tonight's looong two-hour finale reminded me of a wedding (even more than that awful band usually does): the way the rejected couples marched in and did their obviously unchoreographed freestyle, and then the finalists kept giving their partners loving looks like they were at the altar. Other parts made me think that my DVR was acting up — we watched the same clips at least three times, just in varying lengths and orders. They had to be absolutely certain that we knew just how far these stars had come. OK, I did enjoy all those rehearsal scenes showing how adorable the relationships between the pros and their star students had become. I love how much emphasis Stacy, Tony, Drew read more

Click here for our minute-by-minute coverage of last night's Golden Globe Awards. FRIDAYDancing with the StarsI don't know enough about television programming to tell if ABC's shooting itself in the high heel with this loooong results show. If I didn't have to write about it and if I knew that every single dance would air unedited again on Friday, I'd skip Thursday's episode altogether. Of course, I did want to rewatch some performances: George's "Top Hat," Stacy's near-perfect rumba and Tatum's meltdown. In confessional, Tatum seemed to blame it all on the praise people gave her after the first episode, then she burst i read more

Dancing with the Stars Tom Bergeron...

Dancing with the Stars
Tom Bergeron
was faster than the quickstep with his off-the-cuff humor tonight — calling the rowdy audience soccer fans, warning the judges not to tell Drew Lachey he wasn't "in sync," suggesting that Master P start a line of dancing shoes. I was also tickled by the way George Hamilton was orchestrating all these little soap-operatic scenes for the moments just before the commercial. I'm glad some people are taking the competitive edge off things.

Lisa and Louis: I always thought of the rhumba as Baby and Johnny's dance from Dirty Dancing. Even without the lift, this was much dirtier. But what, dear god, is up with choosing that read more
