Met future performing partner and husband Sonny Bono in a Sunset Boulevard coffee shop in 1962. When they first began to sing together, they called themselves Caesar and Cleo.
Was a backup singer for Phil Spector-produced groups like the Ronettes and the Crystals in the mid-'60s.
One of five actor-singers to have a No. 1 single and win an acting Academy Award (the others are Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Barbra Streisand and Jamie Foxx).
