Frankie buys a discounted dining-room set online to celebrate her and Mike's wedding anniversary. Meanwhile, Axl and Hutch search for a third roommate; Sue is displeased with the gift Darrin gives her; and Brick launches a podcast.
Brick invites a girl home just to hang out with him on Halloween, much to his parents' surprise. Meanwhile, Sue tries to host a pumpkin-patch screening of an animated holiday classic to earn money for college; and Axl gets locked inside of a library.
Frankie is forced to wash dishes with the outside hose after the kitchen sink caves in. Meanwhile, Sue must learn a complicated dance routine in order to pass phys ed; and Brick takes Axl's advice and tries to scam Mike after breaking the lawn mower.
The Hecks go to a restaurant buffet for Thanksgiving dinner. However, the meal doesn't go well because Sue suspects that Mike dislikes Darrin, Brick invites his unconventional girlfriend and Frankie makes Axl bring a date he doesn't even know.
Sue tours some colleges with her dad. Meanwhile, Frankie eagerly dashes off to see Axl play football in his first college game; and with no family members around, Brick gets assistance from the Hecks' friends as he works on a school project.
An unappreciated Frankie takes a simplistic approach to Christmas. Meanwhile, Mike buys an artificial tree; Axl and Sean get into an intense quarrel, which threatens their business relationship; and Brick writes a letter summarizing the Hecks' past year.
Frankie acts like a teenager when she hangs out with Pam Staggs, a former classmate who was popular in high school. Meanwhile, Brick surprises Mike by winning an athletic award; Sue pursues some odd hobbies; and Axl seeks a date with Devin Levin.
Frankie finds an old paycheck she never cashed, and Mr. Ehlert makes her work at the car lot for one day in order to collect her pay. Elsewhere, Mike finds a part-time job for Sue at the quarry; and Big Mike wants Axl to help replace the kitchen sink.
Aunt Edie passes away, so the Hecks travel to South Dakota via train to take her body to its final resting place. During the trip, Axl feels guilty for lying about her death earlier; and Brick tries to follow Aunt Edie's example of living life freely.
Cindy wants a kiss from Brick on Valentine's Day, which causes anxiety for him. Meanwhile, Darrin constructs a scavenger hunt for Sue, and he seeks her parents' help with it; and Axl is unsure if Devin's sincere about not desiring a Valentine's Day gift.

Brick's family forget about his birthday until Frankie realizes this oversight three months later. Meanwhile, Sue becomes overzealous in her attempts to make a splash in the yearbook; and Devin ends her relationship with Axl.
Frankie flirts with Axl's pal in a joking manner, but then she worries things were misconstrued. Elsewhere, Sue escorts Brick to a sci-fi convention; and Tag wants Mike to help him prepare for his driving test so he won't lose his license.
Frankie is anxious to find out whether Sue got into college, while Sue tries to relax by making sachets. Elsewhere, Brick evicts Axl from his bedroom so he can work on his novel in quiet; and Mike denies that he was singing loudly in his car.
Frankie goes on Brick's field trip and tries to help him make new friends. Meanwhile, Axl pretends to be close to Sue in order to impress Devin; and Mike fears that bullying Rusty during childhood caused Rusty to become a sad sack later in life.
