Diahann Carroll in Grey's Anatomy by Craig Sjodin/ABC
If you don't like tonight's first-rate episode of Grey's Anatomy, which fires on about as many cylinders as possible (humor and emotion coexisting wonderfully), then you should probably face the fact that you simply don't like Grey's anymore, if you ever did. Diahann Carroll, terrific as the departed Burke's visiting mom, hovers around Seattle Grace this week as a much-needed reality check and conscience for the various characters: including Meredith, who could always use a good dressing-down for her narcissism, and George, who's still dithering about how to do the right thing in his romantic quandary involving wife Callie and obsessive crush Izzie. But Mama Burke is really there for Cristina (the fabulous Sandra Oh), who is frozen emotionally as she surveys the wedding gifts that surround her to remind her of her broken relationship. Work is a thankful distraction (Carnage always trumps rounds, she tells her nameless interns), but she can only hide from Prestons mo...

They're over. Or are they? Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Grey's Anatomy by Scott Garfield/ABC
Episode Recap A Change is Gonna ComeWatching the season premiere tonight was like welcoming an old friend back into your home It was so easy to slip back into Greys world and get caught up in all of the amazing moments that make this show so much fun to watch And while I expected the night to start off on a somber note by addressing the CristinaBurke fallout I was pleasantly surprised by the way the attendees paid tribute to Bailey by giving their new interns the same exact first-day speech Bailey had given them In fact I was pleased to see Cristina was doing just fine as she told her interns Dont suck up to me I already hate you Same old Cristina so far Surprisingly Meredith also seemed to be doing just fine despite not having seen Derek in seventeen days Izzie on the other hand was bitter that George had all but disappeared after she told him that she loved him Of course we all know how that storyline ended but lets not get ahead of ourselves

OK, first off, how freakin hilarious was The Bachelor Monday night? Holy human desperation, I loved it! And Hillary from my hometown made the first cut. Represent, Philly ho!Now that we have that out of the way, lets talk last weeks Emmys. Yes, the in-the-round stage was a hot circular mess and why so many statues went to TV-movies, Ill never know. Its not like any of the good Sci Fi Originals get nominated. Hello, Mansquito? So robbed. But Seacrest didnt totally suck, the opening Family Guy number was inspired and some of the winners were deserving. So if youre like me and think you suffered a stroke that made the word Gandolfini sound like Spader, or ya cant get your head around anyone from Torque ever winning anything, you might want to grab the champs on DVD. Turns out that the slights are, in fact, slight.Ugly Betty Much like Bettys Guadalajara poncho, you could spot America Ferreras Outstandin...

Question: Who are the lucky individuals who get to vote for the Emmy Award winners? Is the Academy composed of actors, or is it critics? Also, is there a rule about the number of consecutive Emmys a person or show can receive? Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like The Amazing Race has won every year for best reality show since that category has been in existence. Just once I would love to see American Idol win, since it is such a ratings powerhouse. What characteristics of a show or an actor's portrayal are taken into consideration when deciding nominations and subsequently voting? Sometimes I feel the results are right on (e.g., Jaime Pressly this year), but other times it's a miss (I feel Chandra Wilson deserved the Emmy more than Katherine Heigl since she plays her part so well, instilling fear in all of us). Can you provide me some insight?
Answer: The intricacies of Emmy nominating and voting are too elaborate to go into here, but generally, these are peer awards, wit ...

Ben Vereen by John Sciulli/WireImage.com
Another Broadway star will join Sara Ramirez and Chandra Wilson on Grey's Anatomy this fall. Tony winner Ben Vereen will make an appearance in the second episode of Season 5 as a patient at Seattle Grace. "I was exposed to a fire in my apartment and I come in as a burn victim," Vereen tells TV Guide.com. Im a wise, old guy who is the neighbor of a family hes adopted who has a terrible misfortune. (Spoiler alert!) Vereens character discovers that his surrogate family ran a drug laboratory at home when they all wind up in the hospital after an explosion. Hes crushed because hes a very lonely man, says the actor. Mark and Izzie are taking care of him and Callie comes in, so I deal with those characters. Asked whether hell return to Seattle Grace, Vereen, who signed on for just one episode, jokes, Maybe Ill burn myself again! Ill set myself on fire and theyll be like, Oh no, its n...

Chandra Wilson cohosts SOAPnet... Live from the Daytime Emmys.
She's not just blowing smoke. Unlike certain self-proclaimed soap nuts who don't really watch soaps (hi, Rosie), Grey's Anatomy star Chandra Wilson takes in four hours a day: All My Children, One Life to Live, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless. And she's taking that passion to the red carpet. Wilson and former OLTL stud Ty Treadway will cohost the two-hour

Question: What's your take on Grey's Anatomy's season finale? I have to say, it left me rather cold. Last year I was breathless; this year I was bored. I was initially drawn to Grey's because I could find a bit of myself in each of the five interns (who really were the focus of the show). Now, I simply don't care about the interns (including Meredith, whose mommy and fake mommy died, and who died herself — that should at least stir some kind of pathos in a viewer). I understand the need for character development, but must they devolve into such despicable people (Izzie)? And most of that complaint goes to the residents and attendings, too, with one caveat: Chandra Wilson's Miranda Bailey, though her story lines have been marginalized, remains the kind of person we can only hope our doctors are. In my opinion, the best scene of the finale was the discussion of "failure" between Miranda and George. Ultimately, I am worried that Grey's needs much attention to put it back on course, but ...

I can't decide what I was most surprised about since I thought there were multiple shockers in this season's finale episode. So I will make a list of things that I did not see coming: I did not expect Burke to call off the wedding. If anyone was going to put a stop to it, I thought it would've been Cristina. Apparently, Burke could tell Cristina just wasn't ready. I did not expect George to be the only intern that didn't pass the exam. Alex would've been more predictable. I did not expect Callie to be named new chief resident over Bailey. I did not expect Izzie to (gag me) profess her undying love to George with hopes that he would reciprocate the feelings (once again, gag me). While I'm on the subject of shockers, let me also list things that were more predictable and not shocking: I was not surprised that Rebecca's husband Jeff finally showed up, and she wanted Alex to give her a reason to not return to her hubby. I was pleased that Jeff was played by ...
