Barry finds himself face-to-face with his nemesis, the Man in the Yellow Suit, a.k.a. Reverse Flash, who killed his mother. Barry is frustrated when the Reverse Flash escapes, but Dr. Wells and Cisco come up with a plan to trap him. All they need is bait, so they turn to Dr. Tina McGee (guest star Amanda Pays) from Mercury Labs to help. Meanwhile, it's Christmas at the West household and Iris is in full holiday cheer. Eddie gives her a surprising gift but also leaves her with a question that could change her life. Joe joins the search for the Man in Yellow and ends up in the crossfire. If you hadn't noticed, comic books are no laughing matter on TV these days. AMC's The Walking Dead is TV's top-rated show; Fox's Batman prequel, Gotham, is a bona fide freshman hit; Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a solid performer for ABC; and CBS is eyeing a Supergirl series to call its own. When it comes to heat, well-drawn heroes would seem to have it.

Critic's Notebook: Checking In On Flash, Jane, Forever, Sons

One of the trickier aspects of reviewing TV during a new fall season is judging series based solely on their pilot episodes. It's better to have more in advance, but not always an option. So while I was pleasantly surprised that two of my favorite new shows, The Flash and Jane the Virgin, were on The CW, I was also a bit nervous that they might not be able to sustain.

"Awesome," says the Flash (aka Barry Allen, an adork-able CSI lab nerd), catching his breath after his first mad dash through Central City in fast-forward motion, giving new meaning to happy feet. "Woo-hoo!" he screams during his first supervised test run. "Cool," he reflects later upon his gift of speed, a sentiment echoed by his crime-fighting mentor Arrow, from whose show he is triumphantly spinning off. Couldn't agree more.

CW has released trailers for its new shows, including the anticipated Arrow spin-off The Flash.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, a scientist who is given the power of super-speed after a freak accident that transforms him into the Fastest Man Alive.
