On the Set With Vampire Diaries' Candice Accola: Things Have Changed For Caroline and Tyler

Michael Trevino, Candice Accola

The Vampire Diaries' Caroline Forbes may have resisted Klaus' temptations, but can she resist the lure of college boys?

"We will see other male characters in the series that will be in college and that are good looking. So, there's definitely opportunity for temptation or flirting or whatever young freshman in college do," Candice Accola tells TVGuide.com in the video below.  "But Caroline is still holding onto her relationship with Tyler."

When we last saw Caroline, she had graduated high school with her best friends by her side. But the one person missing? Her love Tyler (Michael Trevino). After a brief visit to surprise Caroline for prom, Tyler left town to avoid the threat of his enemy Klaus (Joseph Morgan). But on his way out of Mystic Falls, Klaus told Caroline, "Tyler is now free to return to Mystic Falls. He's your first love. I intend to be your last — however long it takes."

So why is Tyler still absent when the CW series returns? And when they do eventually reunite, will their love remain?

Rick Cosnett

The Vampire Diaries has cast Australian newcomer Rick Cosnett to play Caroline and Elena's newest foe, Dr. Wes Maxfield, TVGuide.com has learned.

Get scoop on 40 returning shows!

As we previously teased, Dr. Maxfield is a brilliant — and somewhat cocky -- professor at Whitmore College, and after meeting him, Caroline (Candice Accola) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) begin to think he's hiding a dark and dangerous secret. If any of the show's past teachers (ahem, Alaric and Professor Shane) are any indication, we're guessing Maxfield is fully aware of the vampires lurking around town.

Vampire Diaries' Joseph Morgan: Klaus' Scene with Caroline in the Finale Was for the Fans

Joseph Morgan, Candice Accola

The Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan is ready to say goodbye to Mystic Falls and move on to The Originals, but says that the door is always open for more Klaus-and-Caroline stories to be told.

On the Season 4 finale, Klaus finally said the words to Caroline (Candice Accola) that she was waiting to hear: "Tyler is now free to return to Mystic Falls." But this wasn't Klaus' way of stating that he was moving on. Instead he added, "He's your first love. I intend to be your last."

Vampire Diaries Video: Nina Dobrev on Elena's future and her epic fight scene with Katherine

"[There was] a responsibility for the fans who were rooting for Klaus and Caroline to at least give them some sort of resolve," Morgan told TVGuide.com at The CW upfront. "That's not saying it's the end of that because there's the potential of crossovers, but to acknowledge that we owed that to them. It was really generous of [the writers] that after all the terrible things that Klaus has done, to give me something where he can come in and save the day."
