After a motorist runs him off the road and drives away, angry cyclist Murdoch Troon (Stanley Baxter) refuses to be just another hit and run. But when he finally finds the wayward driver (James Robertson Justice), he's driven to distraction by the man's beautiful daughter (Julie Christie). As luck would have it, she's mad for cars, too, which means Murdoch has to change his preferred form of transportation.

British clown prince Norman Wisdom stars as Norman Pitkin, a World War II-era road repairman who gets recruited by the army and dispatched to France, where he accidentally ventures behind enemy lines. After being picked up by the Resistance, Norman spearheads an effort to rescue British POWs from German custody, which lands him in an improbable solo battle against the German army -- with high jinks as his weapon of choice.
