NBC is sold on a pair of Bryans: The Peacock has partnered with Bryan Singer and Pushing Daisies' Bryan Fuller to adapt Augusten Burroughs' Sellevision into a series.
The one-hour dramedy, to be written by Fuller and directed by Singer, will focus on the inner workings of a fictional home shopping network, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Per Variety, ABC has greenlit a pilot for a U.S. adaptation of the U.K. hit Footballers' Wives, and even has X-Men's Bryan Singer — whose last TV pilot was House — loosely attached to direct. In its American incarnation, Wives will be set in the world of pro football rather than that "other" football, soccer, yet promises to retain its over-the-top frothiness. Superman may be faster than a speeding bullet, but Superman Returns took an arduous 117 days to hit the $200 million mark at the box office. While this was a bit of a disappointment (considering the movie’s price tag which, including development, totaled around $250 million), the film was generally well reviewed, as was its strikingly handsome star, Brandon Routh. Warner Bros. has greenlit another movie, signing on Routh and director Bryan Singer for another stab at the Man of Steel’s quest for truth, justice and all that stuff. The lines were longer than ever at this year's Comic-Con International, the annual celebration of all things geeky. Just ask the thousands of Battlestar Galactica fans who waited en masse outside of Ballroom 20 to see their favorite Cylons and colonials in the flesh. Meanwhile, the queue for New Line's special Snakes on a Plane presentation snaked (ha ha ha) out the door and down the side of the massive convention center. There are only two possible explanations for the sheer number of people who invaded San Diego for that weekend: 1) Nerds have learned how to clone themselves or 2) Geek culture is now mainstream culture. Superman Returns director Bryan Singer apparently is spending money faster than a speeding bullet. A well-placed source tells the New York Post that the already big-budget film, due for a June release, has proven to be "a money pit," and that the final tab "will end up being close to $300 million" — a third of which has gone solely toward visual effects. The resulting on-screen product, says the insider, is "Superman meets The Matrix." A rep for the film told the Post the budget quote "is absolutely absurd," then shouted for "Miss Teschmacher!"
