ADAM: Where's the fun in that? Executive producer Stephen Nathan summed up the episode in three words: Big. Game. Changer. "We've existed this whole year with Booth and Brennan accepting, admitting and also denying their feelings for each another and with Booth in a very serious relationship with another woman — much to the dismay of a lot of fans," Nathan says with a laugh. "I think the episode will be a satisfying conclusion to this story line and also a great start for the next development that happens in the show emotionally. It will be very difficult and very painful, and David [Boreanaz] really brings that home."

NATALIE: Here's the good news: "Callie and Arizona will be back together soon," executive producer Shonda Rhimes says simply, adding that Arizona will soon show up on Callie's doorstep. "[The breakup] was a way to jump-start the next phase of their storyline." The bad news? Oh wait, this is good news, too! "Mark is her best friend, they slept together before, so it's just recycling. Fans of The Mentalist are not going to want to miss the final moments of Thursday's episode.
"There's probably the biggest shock ending we've ever put up on the screen," creator Bruno Heller tells TVGuide.com "I think people will be intrigued and surprised by the whole episode."

The episode finds Patrick Jane (Simon Baker, who also directed the episode) and the rest of the CBI investigating a triple homicide in small rural town. Further digging by Jane and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) reveals the killings are the work of serial cop killer. John Billingsley guest-stars as a self-professed psychic, whom Jane manipulates to find the real murderer.

ADAM: Sooner than you think. In the midseason finale, Brennan investigates the murder of a workaholic, and Bones quickly draws parallels to her own life. "She's forced to face feelings that she's never had to deal with before," executive producer Stephen Nathan says. "She confronts the fact that this woman was running her whole life from feeling anything and she has to confront whether she's going to run her whole life from feeling anything. It butts right up against her relationship with Booth and the past five years of history."

Go ahead and stare at Simon Baker. Gawk at his curly golden locks and his winning smile. He doesn't mind, really.
"It doesn't bother me because I know time is ticking," the 41-year-old Baker tells TVGuide.com. "I've been doing this for almost 20 years, and I'm able to see myself age on film. Eventually I know what I'm going to become — I've seen my father."
When Bruno Heller was looking to cast a leading man to play the role of Patrick Jane in The Mentalist, he was won over by Baker's looks as well. But he quickly learned there was much more beneath the surface. "What Jane does is get in people's physical space and inside their heads, and in order to do that, you have to be someone that people want to be close to, whether they know it or not," Heller says. "It needed a very magnetic personality playing the part.

"Simon has a physical and mental grace. He's always switched on — he's always alert, always alive," Heller continues. "If you watch him working on a stage, he's never just going through the lines. He's always looking for the extra grace notes. It's actually a much tougher job. Very few actors can do the hard physical work that must be done on a show like this."
