Brad Pitt Gives New Orleans a Green Color Scheme

Brad Pitt by Steve Granitz/

In the Crescent City yesterday, the sometime resident said that, through his Make It Right project, he intends to build 150 environmentally friendly homes for locals displaced by Hurricane Katrina. "But," he added, "there is no reason why we can't do 1,000 homes, why we can't do 10,000 homes, why we can't do 100,000 homes." Especially if he makes good on his promise to match up to $5 million in donations. Now I know I talk some smack on a semi-regular basis about the pretty boy and his better half, but even I have to admit, this is cool. Wouldn't you agree? — Ben Katner read more

Russell Crowe to Pinch-hit for Brad Pitt?

Russell Crowe by Lester Cohen/

I'm not sure he's got the cheekbones for the job, but Variety says Universal Pictures execs spent their holiday weekend attempting to coax Oscar winner Russell Crowe to replace Angelina Jolie's other half in the all-star political thriller State of Play. Brad Pitt claims the studio is to blame, and all they had to do was wait out the writers' strike so a script that he liked could be hammered out. But Universal counters that it has the option of suing, seeing as the heartthrob bailed on a pay-or-play deal. Personally, I think they should just make a documentary of this drama and call it a day. — Ben Katner read more

Brad Pitt Calls It Quits

No, not with Angelina Jolie. Are you kidding? He's just pulled out of Universal's State of Play because even a series of meetings with director Kevin MacDonald (The Last King of Scotland) couldn't ease his concerns about the script (which, thanks to the writers strike, can't be altered). What's more, the Hollywood Reporter adds, the studio is considering suing the actor as it seeks to replace him in the political thriller with Johnny Depp or Russell Crowe. Unless you've got a better idea? — Ben KatnerFor more WGA strike coverage, updates and unique points of view, see's Strike Watch blog. read more
