Wednesday TV Review: American Horror Story, Historical Drama World Without End

Confession of a lifelong horror fan: The first season of FX's American Horror Story left me cold, more appalled than terrified at the overindulgent mishmash of psychosexual poppycock ensnaring unpleasant characters, plus the overkill of a house teeming with too many tedious ghosts, proving the adage that more can be less — effective, that is, although the hype and the buzz carried it to a whopping 17 Emmy nominations (in the miniseries category, where the competition is less fierce). read more

"What does it mean when you tell kids to follow your dreams no matter how hard it is but then it's really hard.... read more

How much does FX President and General Manager John Landgraf know about his network's upcoming Charlie Sheen comedy Anger Management? Something he calls "a snippet of a story line."

The show, a loose adaptation of the 2003 Adam Sandler-Jack Nicholson movie of the same name, will premiere in June. FX executives have yet to see a single script, but Landgraf said he was convinced by a good idea pitched in part by the kinder, gentler Sheen seen over the last couple of months on something of a media mea culpa tour. read more

FX Renews American Horror Story for Season 2

American Horry Story has been renewed for a 13-episode second season.

"It's one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience—it's something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up, network President John Landgraf said Monday in announcing the renewal. "Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip/Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX's viewers to death for many years to come."
