While on the Today show promoting his show Nashville Star, Meredith couldn't resist asking Billy Ray what his take was on the passé issue of Miley's half-naked, provocative photos in Vanity Fair. Daddy Cyrus explained he didn't complain to the magazine by using the lovely metaphor, "The more you stomp in poop, the more it stinks." He even addressed what many called the "creepy" pose between him and his daughter which looked more like boyfriend and girlfriend.

Cheers to Nashville Star for cutting to the chase. American Idol's countrified cousin whittled down the audition process which takes Simon Cowell & Co. seemingly endless weeks to 20 minutes, and promptly presented the Top 12 finalists. It helped that there were none of the airtime-sucking freak-shows that make Idol's initial episodes so painful. Plus, Jewel smoothly transitioned from host to judge, making room for new emcee Billy Ray Cyrus to bring some of that Hannah Montana/Dancing With the Stars magic to the show as it's transplanted from USA to NBC. In a word: Giddyap! Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board. We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine!

Billy Ray Cyrus, cohost of the CMT Music Awards
If November's CMAs are the Oscars of country music, then the free and easy CMT Music Awards (tonight at 8 pm/ET) — honoring country music videos — are the Golden Globes. Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Sugarland and LeAnn Rimes perform at the Nashville event, along with hosts Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray, who phoned us from his home in Tennessee to discuss what's shaping up to be an awfully busy year for the Hannah Montana patriarch.
TVGuide.com: Are you all ready to host?Billy Ray Cyrus: Man, I am so excited. Miley and I play everything by ear. We'll learn a script really good and do that whole thing, but we kind of play everything by ear. So it's going to be kind of an evolution, with any twists an

Miley Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray, will host the 2008 CMT Music Awards, to be broadcast live on April 14 from Belmont University's Curb Event Center in Nashville. "Miley and I are so excited," Dad says in a statement. "We know it will be a fun-filled night with a lot of great music performances."Indeed, the seventh-annual kudosfest will feature performers such as Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Carrie (of course) Underwood, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Toby Keith. Other acts will be announced in the coming weeks. (For example, Hannah Montana, I hear, is holding out for a pretty strict dressing-room rider calling for 18 different flavors of lip gloss and a gross of Pixie Stix.)
