Music Notes: Encores for The Eagles, Billy Joel

The classic rock group The Eagles are nearing completion on their first album of all-new material (since 1979's The Long Run), to be released "in 60 to 90 days, if we don't kill each other first," the Las Vegas Review-Journal quotes founding member Don Henley as saying at a Saturday event. Officially, the Eagles have no comment.... Uptown Girl who? Billy Joel will release his first pop single in 14 years — "All My Life," which he wrote as an anniversary present for his wife, Top Chef host Katie Lee Joel. It will be available at iTunes on Feb. 20. Dollar-for-dollar, that's perhaps cheaper than the eternity band I got my own mrs. last fall. read more

You knew it was inevitable that Michelle would maneuver Burts death but I didnt think it would be so soon I was really digging Larry Hagman in the role but this doesnt mean he cant come back for some fabulous NipTuck dream sequences When Michelle told Francis the nurse to go home and that shed take care of giving Burt his pills I knew Michelle was lying Poor Burt had to crawl out of bed and attempt the stairs by himself just to try to take those dang pills Too late Burt died a dramatically painful death while his wife Michelle just stared at him But taking Burts kidney saved her dear Christians life Excellent timing with that text message from James to the whorestaff member with the razor blade who was having sex with Christian Abort Since James had 24 hours to give those two mysterious French-speaking Asian-American dudes one more kidney to meet their quota mission accomplished So this means Christian still doesnt know James and Michelle are the orga read more

The Office Revisits a "Health" Scare

Rainn Wilson, The Office

I'd like to start this week's blog by publicly thanking my husband for letting me hijack his laptop for the past few weeks while I've been on the road. Thanks to him, I've typed many of my recent blogs from planes, hotel rooms and coffee shops. I'm currently en route from Montreal to our hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, where I'm meeting him for a special advanced screening of his new horror movie, Slither (which, if I can do a little wifely bragging, just received an amazing review in Variety). Tonight NBC is reairing my favorite episode from Season 1 — "Health Care" — written by the uber-talented Paul Lieberstein. I've watched this episode more times than any other episode we've made, and I still love seeing it. This week, Michael has to cut employee health benefits. Because he knows this will make him unpopular he makes Dwight do it. Dwight goes way overboard. He surveys people about their private health problems and the read more

The Office "Kids" Around

The Office's John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer

This week's episode of The Office [Thursdays at 9:30 pm/ET on NBC] is called "Take Your Daughter to Work Day," and it is written by the hot and talented Mindy Kaling (who also plays Kelly on the show). Every few weeks we have a scene that knocks me on the floor laughing while we shoot, and this was one of those weeks. I haven't seen the final product so I'm not sure what made it in and what didn't. And who knows if the comedy translated on screen or if it was just one of those days where we were slaphappy and giggling at everything. But this was a fun episode to shoot. In this episode the Dunder-Mifflin employees bring their daughters to work for the day. Stanley brings his hot teenage daughter who starts crushin' on R read more

American Idol Another season of...

American IdolAnother season of American Idol begins with double the twin action. Does anyone agree that two sets of male twins plus the small-town Barrettsmith sisters might be overkill in the family-drama department? It smells a touch gimmicky, but at least all the siblings can back it up with their voices. So can single-named diva Mandisa and Gina, the tongue-pierced, fishnet-wearing dental assistant who managed a decent Celine Dion vocal. But really, we don't tune in to see the true talents this early in the season. There will be plenty of time to see how they fare. No, the premiere episode is all about the truculent train wrecks, and Chicago was full of 'em. Here's a hint for future Idol wannabes: When the judges r read more

Love Monkey A bit of a disclaimer:...

Love MonkeyA bit of a disclaimer: I was more than a little bit biased watching this show. Ed is one of my favorite shows, I find Tom Cavanagh utterly adorable, and to top it all off, they tossed Jason Priestley into the mix. My lingering 90210 loyalties run pretty deep. So it isn't all that surprising that I adored the first episode of this new series, in spite of its ridiculous name. (Yeah, I get that he's trying to find love and swinging between trees — it is still just a bizarre title.) It combines elements of Jerry Maguire — Tom's boardroom speech about his love for music — and High Fidelity —  the music snobbery was running rampant with the merciless mocking of artists like Air Supply and Billy Joel. Listen up: If you've ever worked...

Listen up: If you've ever worked in an office and you're not watching The Office, you're missing out on the most therapeutically hilarious half hour this side of Arrested Development. That's right; I said it. This week the Dunder-Mifflin employees find themselves marooned in the parking lot after a fire non-drill, and just like our Lost-aways, their survival instinct and penchant for conflict kick in almost immediately. While Jim keeps the masses occupied with a friendly game of Desert Island, boss-man Michael "Out of the Building First" Scott lands himself in the middle of a deliciously complex love triangle. On the left, there's Dwight, a man willing to run into a burning building after your cell phone and clearly the most dedicated fire marshal in all of Scranton. And on the right, ther read more
