Nasim Pedrad Talks Departing SNL for Mulaney: "At Some Point You Have to Leave"

Nasim Pedrad

When Saturday Night Live returns this fall, it will be without a very familiar face.

No, we're not talking about the recently departed Brooks Wheelan, Noël Wells or John Milhiser — it's OK, no one really remembers what they did on the sketch show, either — but Nasim Pedrad, who is leaving after five years to star on... read more

Which SNL Alums Returned for the Season Finale with Andy Samberg?

Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Andy Samberg

Saturday marked the Season 39 finale of Saturday Night Live, but you would have never known it from the episode itself, which boasted best sketches that relied mostly on guest stars who were fixtures on previous seasons.

With Andy Samberg hosting, the blasts from the past continued with appearances by Bill Hader, Seth Meyers, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Kristen Wiig and Fred Armisen. We were shocked not to see a duet from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Highlights included a hilarious cold open lampooning the Solange-Jay Z-Beyonce Elevator Incident, the return of the Kissing Family, and not one, but two digital shorts. Check out the night's best sketches below:

Mindy, Amy and (on DVD) Laura Petrie: TV's Funny Girls

Chris Messina, Mindy Kaling

Having recently been renewed for a third season, disproving TV's usual out-of-sight/out-of-mind policy, Fox's The Mindy Project emerges from a three-month hiatus with back-to-back episodes (Tuesday, 9/8c) demonstrating Mindy Kaling's devotion to screwball comedy. A concept which Amy Schumer would probably find a way to make sound really, hilariously dirty. (Her uproarious Comedy Central sketch-com Inside Amy Schumer returns at 10:30/9:30c, making this an especially happy April Fools Day.)

Saturday Night Live: Stefon and Amy Poehler Help Seth Meyers Say Goodbye

Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, Seth Meyers

It was Melissa McCarthy's third time hosting SNL, but the focus of the night wasn't on the comedian's welcome return. Saturday also markedSeth Meyers' last episode after more than a decade on the series.

While the episode featured some real duds (we're looking at you, "Art Exhibit"), Meyers' goodbye and McCarthy's delightful absurdity made it an episode worth watching. Check out the best sketches below.

Inside the New Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live

Live from New York, it's...NBC's hottest show? After nearly 40 years on the air and countless cast changes — including the losses of Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen and (soon) Seth Meyers in the last two seasons alone — Saturday Night Live routinely ranks as one of the Peacock Network's highest-rated series in the advertiser-coveted 18-to-49 age demographic (just below The Voice, The Blacklist and Chicago Fire). The Mindy Project: What's Next for Mindy and Danny?

Chris Messina, Mindy Kaling

The Mindy Project's Season 2 premiere ended with a major twist: Casey (Anders Holm) called off the wedding to Mindy (Mindy Kaling) and went back to Haiti without her. And while the couple has agreed to do long distance, it's not going to be easy (especially with their floundering Skype sex skills). So what's next for the adorably odd couple?

The Mindy Project Is Finally Legitimately Awesome

The Mindy Project

Even the most die-hard Mindy Kaling fans had to acknowledge that The Mindy Project's first season had some flaws. And unfortunately, right when the show seemed to be finding its groove, the season was over. Now, The Mindy Project  is back for Season 2 and poised to be the great comedy we always wanted it to be.

The first season of the The Mindy Project suffered from a severe lack of focus. Torn between being a workplace comedy and a meta rom-com, The Mindy Project was a little all over the place. Certain episodes featured so many disjointed story lines that it felt stitched together like a comedy Frankenstein. But even amid the confusion, the show always had enough great jokes — delivered by some of Hollywood's hottest actors — to keep me watching.
