Wounded while stopping the James gang from robbing the local bank, a cowboy wakes up in the hospital to find that he's been elected town marshal. He soon comes into conflict with the town banker, who controls everything in town and is squeezing the townspeople for every penny he can get out of them.

Singing cowboy Roy Rogers pulls double duty as both a hero and a villain in this classic black-and-white Western that finds him infiltrating a local gang of hoodlums to bring them to justice from the inside out. But the joke's on Roy when the bad guys mistake him for their fearless leader. Songs include "Faithful Pal of Mine," "Yip Pe Yi Your Troubles Away" and "Remember Me," with Roy's faithful sidekick, George "Gabby" Hayes, co-starring.

Roy's strong resemblance to a notorious crook gives him a chance to infiltrate the gang, but the usual complications arise when the look-alike desperado returns. It's fun to watch Roy Rogers play the tough guy.
