The final push to Ujiji where Stanley meet Dr. Livingstone... and said the immortal line, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume." The final push is not without peril. The Explorers battle rough water on Lake Tanganyika, and their boat are separated: Pasquale and Mireya in one boat. Benedict and Kevin in another. After hours of separation, they reunited on a the shores of the lake to spend the night. Their final day, their final push finding them in a swamp... that truly tests them. In the end, they walk four abreast down the mango-lined road where Stanley once walked to greet Dr. Livingstone. The entire village turns out to greet the Explorers. watch
The Explorers push onward from the Ugalla River to the Malagarasi, where Stanley had lost his favorite donkey. Benendict tries to hide from the others that he's still not feeling well, but the other notice he's not well, casting concern that Benedict might night make it to the end. watch
Benedict and Pasquale reach an uneasy truce as the explorers trek to Tabora, site of the Livingstone house. There, one of the team comes down with malaria--ironically, the same place where Stanley contracted it. This puts the future of the expedition entirely in question. They decide to continue, and the Expedition heads off toward an uncertain future, knowing any relapse could lead to their failure. Time is critical if they want to make Ujiji in 30 days. With one of the team ill and needing care, the balance of power changes, and the group is exhausted. They make camp, but must build fires to ward off the danger from hippos. After a decision to rest for a day, confrontations ensue. Two of the team get into a huge fight, putting team unity--and hope for a successful expedition--into shambles. watch
