Supernatural Episode Recap: "The Great Escapist"

Both Sam and Cas are in a world of hurt as Sam continues to feel the effects of the trials. And Cas' attempts to evade Naomi and her crew hit a Big(gerson's) snag. Plus, the Winchesters meet a potential new ally who's been a non-factor for much of what's been going on as of late. But could that change?

I'm kind of glad that last week we got a bit of a filler episode, with Charlie bringing a new case to the boys. Because this week, Ben Edlund dropped a boatload of information on us and it almost made my head hurt. It's definitely an episode that demands a re-watch (or four) because I'm sure I haven't caught everything.

Supernatural Episode Recap: "Everybody Hates Hitler"

Rabbis, Nazi Necromancers and a Golem, oh my.

In "Everybody Hates Hitler," Sam and Dean use their grandfather's key to open up what quickly becomes the Winchester Brothers' world headquarters. Their new digs are mighty impressive -- something straight out of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The brothers aren't there long before a seriously geeked out Sam discovers a case. The younger Winchester seems to find himself a purpose. For the first time in a long time, Sam seems content with where he is and what he's doing.

Supernatural at Comic-Con: Dean's Coming Back "Quickly" — But There's a Catch

Purgatory, schmurgatory.

After seven seasons of literally going to hell and back, Supernatural star Jensen Ackles isn't too phased by his alter ego's trip to the world between the living and the dead in the Season 7 finale.

"I mean come on, it's like diet Hell," Ackles told the Comic-Con crowd on Sunday. "Much like the Hell situation, obviously Dean can't stick down there forever. He gets out. How he gets out... read more

Supernatural's Ultimate Meta Episode: Sam and Dean Become Jared and Jensen

Some Supernatural fans hate them, others — count me among them — love when the show punches through the fourth wall. Writer Ben Edlund (he wrote last season's hilarious "Changing Channels") is back Friday (9/8c on The CW) with another exposé of life behind the scenes on a TV show. This time, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) find themselves thrust into the topsy-turvy world of Supernatural, the TV series. Executive producer Sera Gamble lets us in on the joke.

TV Guide Magazine: This episode, "The French Mistake," sounds like the biggest meta episode you've done.
Gamble: We're going pretty far! [Laughs]

TV Guide Magazine: What does the title mean?
Gamble: It's a reference to a song at the end of Blazing Saddles, that's a reference to breaking the Fourth Wall. We chose the title as a winking nod to that concept.

TV Guide Magazine: What's the situation Sam and Dean find themselves in?
Gamble: Castiel has been fighting ...

Supernatural (Friday, 9/8c, The CW)
Fancy this! After a season of emotional and horrific turbulence for the Winchesters, finally a whimsical change of pace, courtesy of Ben (The Tick) Edlund, who wrote this episode that finds the boys running afoul of fairies, elves, gnomes and leprechauns. Oh my! It all begins when ... read more
