  • Bill Bellamy Dishes on Keeping Last Comic Standing Funny | Today's News: Our Take | 5/29/2008
Tonight, The Office's Angela Kinsey and Oscar Nunez evaluate yuksters in L.A. with the blessing of irreverent Last Comic Standing host Bill Bellamy, the man perhaps best known for coining the phrases "booty call." He gave us the scoop on this season's comics. TV Guide: What's new with the show?Bill Bellamy: It’s going to be an exhilarating, funny, super-duper show. The scope — the world wide search — is bigger [this year]. It’s like the Super Bowl of comedy! I think people are going to get committed to the comedians. Not only are you going to get an opportunity to see funny people, you’re going to know their story. It’s a lot of fun. TV Guide: How does the talent level compare to previous seasons?Bellamy: We’ve gotten better because more comics are seeing it. Wh read more
  • Star Says McG's Fastlane Is Speeding to DVD! | DVD News | 1/14/2008
Last week in his "Joy of Sets" column right here at DVD News & Reviews, Damian Holbrook posted his "wish list of shows [he] would LOVELOVELOVE to show up on DVD during 2008" (that's a direct quote). Near the top of Damian's list was the 2002 series Fastlane, created by McG through Warner Bros. Television, and airing on the Fox Network. The show starred Peter Facinelli (Six Feet Under, Damages), Bill Bellamy (How to Be a Player, Any Given Sunday) and Tiffani Thiessen (aka Tiffani-Amber Thiessen; Beverly Hills 90210, Saved by the Bell) as undercover cops using confiscated goods to go after the crooks in L.A., and included a ton of great guest stars among the 22 episodes produced. Now Peter Facinelli's official website is saying that the show is on its way to DVD this coming summer. If that doesn't put a smile on Damian's face, I'm not sure what will! For more details about this, and for a look at the graphic showing off the news, read the full story at TVShowsOnDVD.com! — David... read more
  • Welcome to Season 5! | Celebrity Blogs | 6/11/2007
So here we go, the first episode of a new season of NBC's Last Comic Standing [Wednesdays at 9 pm/ET, starting June 13] is coming up. It's kind of fitting that the first episode will be set in New York, the land where dreams are made and broken.I guess I'd better reintroduce myself. I'm Alonzo Bodden, Season 2 runner-up, Season 3 winner and Season 5 talent scout.I've done it all on Last Comic Standing, except host. I wanted to host but they hired Bill Bellamy. After watching Bill, I see I have a lot to learn about hosting. He's great. He's bringing a whole new energy to the show, and he looks good in a suit. The other talent scouts are ANT and Kathleen Madigan. Kathleen is hilarious and she really knows comedy. When we did Seasons 2 and 3, she wasn't featured enough, the reason being that it wouldn't challenge her. We all knew how funny she is, but now you guys get to see it. I love Kathleen and all her voices, characters and whatever else goes on inside that little red head of hers.... read more
  • Funny Money: Last Comic Ups the Stakes | Today's News: Our Take | 5/23/2007
NBC's Last Comic Standing on June 13 uncorks its fifth season with a number of tweaks. Last year's zombie-like Anthony Clark has been replaced as host with Bill Bellamy, while LCS talent scouts Kathleen Madigan, Alonzo Bodden and Ant will scour the entire English-speaking world — not just the U.S. — to find the winner. Other adjustments include a $250,000 grand prize (up from the previous $50K pittance), viewers being able to vote during the head-to-head competitions, and the absence of 24-hour surveillance. Still, executive producer Peter Engel reserves the right to pop up now and again with a camera crew. "And whenever I [do]," he says, "you know it's not good." Too true: the last time he appeared on screen was a cameo in USA High. — Reporting by Raven Snook read more
  • How NBC Will Spend Our Summer Vacation: Getting Real | Today's News: Our Take | 4/13/2007
Whoever said the reality-TV craze was over obviously hasn't talked to the suits at NBC. This summer, the Peacock will be feathering its nest with three returning reality shows and yet another new one. First up is America's Got Talent, which kicks off on May 29 with incoming ringleader Jerry Springer (sans bodyguards... I assume). Next, the fifth cycle of Last Comic Standing premieres June 13, with Bill Bellamy as host. Frosh date-a-thon Age of Love, fronted by Mark Consuelos (aka Mr. Kelly Ripa), bows June 18. And last but not least, The Biggest Loser hits the treadmills in late summer, with Days of our Lives' minx Alison Sweeney presiding over the weighting game. read more
