An international team of climbers ascends Mt. Everest in the spring of 1996. Lengthy preparations for the climb, their trek to the summit, and their successful return to Base Camp. It also shows many of the challenges the group faced.

When an unexpected solo mountain trek ends in catastrophe for John Laughlin (Jason Priestly), inspired fellow climbers set out to brave the elements and follow John's dream...to conquer the world's tallest peak, Mt. Everest. Determined investigative reporter Norman Kelly (William Shatner) chronicles their daily struggle and when mutiny seems to destroy any hope of reaching the summit, injured climber Laurie Skreslet (Eric Johnson) leads the group across creaking icefalls, gaping chasms and through the "death zone" in an effort to survive.
