Enlisted in the Chinese People's Liberation Army at the age of 14 and was part of a troupe that entertained soldiers in Tibet.
Participated in China's pro-democracy movement and witnessed the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989.
Made her American movie debut in the 1994's The Crow.
In June 2005, became the first Asian woman to appear on the cover of Playboy.
