On the one-year anniversary of his death, Heath Ledger earned a supporting actor Academy Award nomination for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight.
Ledger's nod was among the most anticipated of Thursday's Oscar announcements. The best-picture nominees include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which led with 13 total nominations, Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon, Milk and The Reader. (Check out the list of nominees here.)
Ledger, a previous lead-actor nominee for Brokeback Mountain, picked up the biggest nomination for The Dark Knight, which was shut out of the picture and director race despite momentum in recent weeks, including nominations from the three Guilds (Producers, Writers and Directors).

The critics have spoken and it's a Slumdog and a devious Joker who have their vote.
The 14th Annual Broadcast Film Critics Association crowned Danny Boyle's sleeper hit, Slumdog Millionaire, as best picture Thursday — one of five awards it walked away with. The indie flick also picked up best director for Boyle, best writer for Simon Beaufoy, best young actor/actress for Dev Patel and best composer for A.R. Rahman.
Slumdog only missed out on best song, which went to Bruce Springsteen for "The Wrestler" in the flick of the same name.

The actress, currently starring in Rachel Getting Married, was attending the recent Trevor Project's annual Cracked Xmas gala at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles and made an impromptu decision to put herself up for auction.
Proceeds raised (including $7,000 for a walk-on role on 30 Rock) benefit the Trevor Project's suicide hotline for gay, lesbian, transgender and questioning youths.
