A mad scientist, his genius prodigal son and a noble FBI agent compose the surrogate family at the core of Fox's supernatural drama Fringe that, under the direction of sci-fi kingpin J.J. Abrams (Lost), struggled through five low-rated seasons of endlessly fascinating twists and turns that, quite literally, attempted to tell the story of the universe, er, universes. It will all come to an auspicious end Friday at 8/7c, in what devotees hope will be a satisfying ending to the little series that could...

It's the end of the worlds as we know it. And all Fringe Division wants is soup.
"I swear I saw someone walking around with it!" says Jasika Nicole, bubbly and bundled up between takes while filming on a Vancouver lot. With a week left before wrapping Fringe's fifth and final season, the mood on this drizzly December afternoon is unexpectedly light. Especially for folks facing a string of long night shoots involving the ultimate battle between our heroes and their bald overlords, the Observers. "It's going to be...

In a cruel new world, it only seems fitting that Peter and Olivia would reunite with their daughter only to have her tragically taken away from them too soon.
On last Friday's Fringe, the Observers mercilessly killed the youngest Bishop family member, sending out shock waves among the Fringe fandom. How could Etta (Georgina Haig), who we came to love during such a short period of time, be taken away so soon? This is just a taste of the danger Peter (Joshua Jackson), Olivia (Anna Torv), Walter (John Noble) and Astrid (Jasika Nicole) will continue to face in the Observer-occupied future.
Mega Buzz: Which familiar face is returning to Fringe?

We'd say "Spoiler alert," but between the Twitter reactions from both coasts and the pre-episode rumors, you probably have a good idea who we're mourning following Friday's Fringe. Yep, in a final-moments shootout with The Observers...

It's the final frontier for the Fringe Division, as the sci-fi drama heads to the future to wrap up its run. "It's a truck to the end," says exec producer J.H. Wyman of the show's 13-episode farewell fifth season, which will pick up in the Observer-overrun year 2036 we first saw in last spring's "Letters of Transit" episode.
Let's hope you didn't have much else planned for this weekend, because there's so much excellent TV on tap it's hard to know where to begin.
Let's start with the winners' circle. You couldn't ask for better timing, or a more satisfying result, than Homeland's sweep of the top drama Emmy prizes last Sunday — exactly one week before Showtime's launch of what's shaping up to be a remarkably taut second season (Sunday, 10/9c). Expectations couldn't be higher. (If you missed any or all of the first season, with the deservedly Emmy-winning lead performances by Claire Danes and Damian Lewis, Showtime is replaying all 12 episodes in a Saturday marathon starting at noon/11c.)
Prepare your red vines and strawberry milkshakes: The Fringe community will unite Friday when the Fox sci-fi series kicks off its fifth and final season.
In its swan song, Fringe will focus on the year 2036, 16 years after the Observers invaded Earth. As seen in last year's Episode 19, Peter (Joshua Jackson) and Olivia's (Anna Torv) daughter Etta (Georgina Haig) tracked down her family in order to release them from amber so they could hopefully save the world. And that will be their mission this year: Rid the world of Observers or perish. Yes, the stakes really are that high, and you'll discover why in Friday's premiere (9/8c, Fox).
6 things to know about Fringe's final season premiere
The only saving grace? Walter Bishop (John Noble), who may hold the key to taking down the Observers in his addled brain. First though, the gang will team up to track down Olivia, who was MIA in last season's flash-forward. While touching, the family reunion will bring up a lot of painful memories for Olivia, says executive producer J.H. Wyman. To find out why and what else is in store this year, read below:
In one week, Fringe will kick off its fifth and final season in what can only be called a fast-paced sprint to the finish line.
Set in 2036, the final season follows the just-reunited Fringe Division as they attempt to rid the world of Observers, who enslaved humanity in 2016. Will Walter (John Noble) & Co. be able to succeed?
