Review: CBS's New Thursday: Mom, McCarthys, Elementary Returns

The Thursday Night Football experiment is over for now, with games now exclusively on the NFL Network while CBS resumes its regular programming, with a few new tweaks. Most notable is the move from Mondays of the underrated Mom, nestled at 8:30/7:30c between producer Chuck Lorre's higher-profile hits, the dominant The Big Bang Theory at 8/7c and the fading Two and a Half Men, finally entering its final season, at 9/8c.

Monday TV: Mom's the Word, and Warehouse 13 Opens One Last Time

All season long, I've been likening CBS's freshman sleeper Mom to gritty sitcom foremothers like Roseanne and Grace Under Fire (shows on which executive producer Chuck Lorre famously spent time before his current CBS heyday). That comparison rings especially true in the first-season finale (Monday, 9:30/8:30c), as third-generation mom-too-soon Violet (Sadie Calvano) gives birth while her own imperfect mother, Christy (Anna Faris), and caustic grandma Bonnie (Allison Janney) look on with emotional empathy. read more

Monday TV: Mother Ends, Friends Begins

"Love doesn't make sense," hopeless romantic Ted told almost-runaway bride Robin last week in the penultimate episode of CBS's long-running romcom How I Met Your Mother. That episode ended, as we knew it would, with Robin and Barney tying the knot, because as Ted concluded in his Speech That Sums The Series Up: "Love is the best thing we do." True words, but even truer were these words: "I won't lie, that was a long weekend."

Monday TV: Lorre's Ladies (Mom & Molly), Dancing Returns

On this day most readily associated with the Wearing of the Green, consider a TV industry green with envy at the success of Chuck Lorre's comedy empire on CBS, which renewed all of his current series last week, led by the terrific and tremendously popular The Big Bang Theory (a powerhouse providing a clout that helps explain why the beyond-past-its-prime Two and a Half Men also made the cut). Lorre's two Monday comedies, anchored by strong female performances, are also back next season — and that's especially good news for fans (including me) of the underperforming, underrated Mom, with its sensational mother-daughter tag team of Allison Janney and Anna Faris as Bonnie and Christy, two generations of recovering addicts raising a family against powerful odds.

Mom Star Sadie Calvano on Violet's "Big Decision" and Pregnancy Plot Backlash

There's babies on the brain on Monday's episode of Mom — for everyone, that is, except Violet (Sadie Calvano), who would like nothing more than to completely forget about the fact that her due date is fast approaching.

"Violet's undoubtedly made mistakes, as every teenager does," Calvano tells TVGuide.com. "But at the end of the day, Violet's a really smart girl. And I do think as the pregnancy comes closer and closer to its end, she struggles with deciding what the smartest choice is regarding this baby, so that she can break the cycle and give the baby the life that she wishes she could have had."

Monday Review: A&E's Kill-er Women, Mom, Human Finale, Castle, Jeopardy!

A&E certainly has an eye for talent, with the brooding Chloë Sevigny joining the electrifying Vera Farmiga in back-to-back Monday psycho- (or Psycho) dramas. Unfortunately, the former Big Love scene-stealer is not nearly as well served by the unpleasant formula dreariness of Those Who Kill (10/9c), an adaptation of a Danish series that takes a by-the-numbers approach to some truly ghastly serial-killer action.

Ask Matt: Cards Spoilers, Mom, Blacklist, NCIS's 250th and More

Question: When dealing with shows like House of Cards (in which an entire season is available at one time), what's your opinion on how spoilers should be discussed? Is every episode fair to be talked about as soon as the season comes out? Should no spoilers be talked about for, say, a week and then every episode is fair game? Or would you treat it more like a traditional series and discuss only one episode at a time? On the receiving end, do you just avoid all spoilers until you've finished watching the entire season? I'm mainly asking this because I'm only up to episode 6 of the new season of House of Cards and am avoiding any article with a spoiler alert, because I don't know just which episodes they may be spoiling. (Thankfully, so far the biggest spoiler I could have had ruined was a very shocking moment in the first episode. I don't gasp very often at a TV show, but I did then.) — Scott
