WORLDS' CHAMPION

Tom Cruise

War of the Worlds' Tom Cruise has been declared the numero uno babymaking moneymaking film star of 2005, per an annual survey of movie exhibitors. In making his record seventh appearance atop the list, Cruise bested (in order) Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (tied for third; make your own bondage joke), Vince Vaughn, and George Clooney. read more

DIFFERENT POINTS OF VOW

Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt

Might "Baby X" Jolie-Pitt not be born out of wedlock? Don't look to the parents for consensus. According to the Star, Brad Pitt was overheard telling The Constant Gardener director Fernando Meirelles on Jan. 17 that he and ladylove Angelina Jolie plan to marry "very soon." Yet that same day, Angie allegedly told Sin City helmer Robert Rodriguez that she and her baby-daddy "will never marry." I'm less fascinated with the disagreement than with the fact that being a Hollywood director apparently makes you privy to all sorts of scoop. read more

APB STILL OUT FOR SENSITIVITY CHIP

Jennifer Aniston

Contrary to rumors, Brad Pitt did not give ex-wife Jennifer Aniston an early heads-up that he and Angelina Jolie are expecting a child together. "The reports about phone calls between Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt... are all made-up lies," the former Friends star's publicist told Extra on Thursday night. As such, Aniston — whose marriage to Pitt reportedly crumbled, in part, due to family-planning issues — is "devastated" by the pregnancy news, a source tells the New York Daily News. read more

BOND IN A BIND

With production slated to start Jan. 30 on Casino Royale, the newest James Bond film and first starring Daniel Craig, producers are scrambling to flesh out the cast — namely, the role of the installment's requisite Bond girl. Per Variety, the short list supposedly includes Commander in Chief's Natasha Henstridge and Aussie Kimberley Davies. None other than Angelina Jolie topped the wish list at one point, but unless Mimi Maternity now offers bulletproof pregnancy jeans, that's looking unlikely. read more

YO, MALLORY!

It will be a family reunion when Family Ties alum Justine Bateman guest-stars on kid brother Jason's Arrested Development. In the Jan. 9 episode, Justine will play Nellie Bluth, a woman Michael suspects may be a long-lost sister of his, so he hires her to consult at the family biz. Then, says Fox's press release, Nellie's "hands-on" tactics catch Michael off guard, leading me to worry that we're gonna have some Angelina Jolie-and-her-brother thing happenin'. But I could be wrong. read more

YO, MALLORY!

Jason and Justine Bateman

Let's just hope Justine doesn't forego the underwear these days. read more

NO PETTY CASH FOR PRETTY WOMAN

When she makes movies (and not oogly-googly noises for her year-old twins), Julia Roberts is filmdom's highest-paid actress. Per the Hollywood Reporter's annual power list, the Pretty Woman now commands $20 million per film, edging out No. 2 on the list, Nicole Kidman (whose ask is as high as $17 mil). Rounding out the Top 10 are Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Jodie Foster (back on the list for the first time since 2002), Charlize Theron and Jennifer Aniston, who's a steal at just $9 million a film. read more

UP! UP WITH PEOPLE!

The nominees for the 32nd annual People's Choice Awards were announced yesterday, and sadly, they did not include a face-off between Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston in the Favorite Female Movie Star category. But at least we get to see Angelina and Brad Pitt (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) square off against Owen Wilson and J.An's alleged new beau, Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers), for Favorite On-Screen Matchup. On the TV side, Everybody Hates Chris, How I Met Your Mother and My Name Is Earl will vie for fave new comedy series, while Commander in Chief, Criminal Minds and Prison Break will do battle for best new drama. And despite its sophomore creative slump, Desperate Housewives managed to snag a best TV-drama nod. (Wait, I thought Emmy said it was a comedy?) Teri Hatcher, meanwhile, read more
