Four directors of a big business combine die from apparent heart attacks. A coincidence or fiendishly clever murders? The Saint takes a hand when a fifth director meets his death.In an era in which take-over bids result in increasingly large combines, some people are bound to suffer. But there is nothing suspicious, at first, about the deaths of four directors of the mighty Combined Holdings - untilthe Saint, Simon Templar (ROGER MOORE), receives a request to visit his old friend Sir John Mulliner JOHN BOXER). Simon doesn't notice a blind man, with a white cane, shuffling along the pavement. The reason for Mulliner's request is made clear when he asks the Saint to accompany him to a meeting of the other directors. It is a postcard showing the blindfolded figure of Justice, holding the scales, with just one word: 'You.' Mulliner has no sooner passed it over than he falls forward - dead.The Saint keeps the appointment with the other directors at the luxurious penthouse home of Gilbert Kirby (ANDREW KEIR) and in doing so meets Kirby's daughter Anne (JEAN MARSH) and the other directors, John Ramsey (RONALD LEIGH-HUNT), Carl Howard (GEOFFREY CHATER), Neal Lammerton (JOHN BARRON) and Elliott Stratton (MARK BURNS).They are shocked at his news, but vote against allowing the Saint to investigate the series of what appear to be natural deaths which now total five, the first of which was of Elliott Stratton's father, who collapsed at a board meeting soon after his firm had been taken over. The Saint, however, goes ahead on his own and receives medical confirmation that all the men died of heart attacks. Lammerton is the next to receive a Scales of Justice postcard, and dies while opening a new club house for a charity organisation. A blind man with a white cane slips out of the hall....Once again, it seems like heart failure, but the Saint finds a tiny steel neddle in the back of Lammerton's chair, which proves that he and the other dire watch
