When Jessie (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) and Paul’s (Greg Kinnear) eight year old son Adam is tragically killed on his birthday, Richard (Robert De Niro), a doctor on the forefront of genetic research, befriends his former student Jessie and her husband at the height of their mourning. He leads the couple in a desperate attempt to reverse the rules of nature and clone their son. The experiment is successful and under Richard’s watchful eye, Adam grows into a healthy and happy young boy, until his 8th birthday, when the new Adam begins to suffer from night terrors and horrific flashbacks and a sinister new personality begins to emerge.
Two childhood friends who couldn't be more different face their past relationships, including their own, alongside a new friend in the 1980's in New York City. Their friendship becomes a love triangle as they struggle with a father's death and an unexpected pregnancy. Together, they face each other as they realize that everything they have may not be what they expected. Starring Colin Farrell ("S.W.A.T.," "Minority Report"), Golden Globe-nominee Robin Wright Penn ("White Oleander," "Unbreakable"), Oscar-winner Sissy Spacek ("In the Bedroom," "JFK"), Wendy Crewson ("The Santa Clause 2," "What Lies Beneath") and Matt Frewer ("Dawn of the Dead"). From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "The Hours" and directed by Tony Award-nominee Michael Mayer ("Thoroughly Modern Millie").
After their young son is killed in an accident, a couple agrees to have him cloned by an enigmatic doctor. However, as the new child ages, the parents realize he is far different from the sweet son they remember.
With the help of a genetic research doctor, mourning parents resort to cloning to bring back their deceased son. All seems well with the new Adam until his eighth birthday when he starts to have nightmares.
