Funny (and Darker) Times Ahead for Rescue Me's Janet

Andrea Roth, Rescue Me

On Rescue Me, being a drinker is practically a prerequisite to being a Gavin. But if there's an exception to the rule, it's Andrea Roth's character Janet — at least for now.

In Tuesday's episode, Janet and ex-husband Tommy (Denis Leary) — who recently resumed his dangerous up-and-down battle with the sauce — visit their daughter Katie (Olivia Crocicchia) at her Connecticut boarding school, a place Roth says Katie ran to seeking refuge from her dysfunctional parents.

"[Katie] was very unhappy," Roth tells TVGuide.com. "Obviously, they've failed as parents ... read more

"The Other Woman"

First of all thanks to Mickey for covering last weeks very trippy episode while I did a little traveling of my own I have to admit that after watching the episode several days later I was somewhat relieved about not having to sort through Desmonds stickiness issues However I do wish I could have shared with all of you how truly touched I was by the phone reunion between Desmond and Penny I read through most of your comments and I am very firmly in the camp of those who feel that Desmond and Pennys love story is really the heart of the show And Jack and Kate are the soul and Sawyer and Kate are the libido But enough about last week lets focus on the nowIts very stressful being an Other Jack Though at the time she was being sarcastic it seems like Juliet really hit the nail on the head Just ask Ethan and Goodwin and Tom andwell lets just say that the Others have faced their share of adversity and gu read more

Cheers: Lost & Laws to the Rescue

Andrea Roth courtesy WireImage.com

Cheers to the Rescue Me crew for keeping their careers simmering. Andrea Roth was suitably creepy as Juliet's island therapist on Lost, and John Scurti (sans his firefighter 'stache) was surprisingly convincing as a no-nonsense judge on Law & Order. Meanwhile, James McCaffrey sizzles as Julianna Margulies' P.I. paramour on exec producer Denis Leary's new Fox drama Canterbury's Law. With the news that the strike may have pushed Rescue's traditional summer season back until next March, these side gigs could be fans' only lifelines. For more on Lost, check out the new Cheers & Jeers vodcast. read more

FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) is looking for revenge after his partner is brutally murdered by the assassin Rogue (Jet Li). It's been three years since the murder, and Crawford is prepared to do anything to capture Rogue after he discovers the assassin is back in San Francisco. Crawford's pursuit will put him in the middle of a conflict between two Asian gangs, and he must be prepared to go to war if he wants to avenge his partner's death.Extras on this Blu-ray release include "The War Chest" (never-before-seen footage available in movie, or through menus), "Scoring War," Visual Commentary with director Philip G. Atwell, Audio Commentary with writers Lee Anthony Smith and Gregory J. Bradley, Gag Reel, Deleted Scenes, "The War Zone" trivia track, Yakuza Fighter game and behind-the-scenes FX Bonus. I really enjoyed listening to the "The War Zone" trivia track, which is filled with interesting information on the location, stunts, and actors in the movie. It also includes shor... read more

"Thirteen"

Quite a packed episode this Veteran scriptwriter Don McGill and whoever else mightve had a hand in it managed to get at least an episode and a halfs worth of incident in wrapped around solving the central case but with plenty of little nudges toward resolving aspects of the longer arcs within the series some of those resolved or at least dealt with perhaps a little too quickly Thanks to any number of crime dramas we mightve seen before ranging from Grand Guignol and its heirs the weirder edge of film noir and contemporary English suspensehorror films and German krimis and Italian gialli and on up through that other film with a digit in its title Se7en and its contemporaries and all the crime fiction that helped to inspire them this episodes fanatic is a familiar type One might even have grown accustomed to his sort from the other procedurals and policeinvestigator shows This is where spoilers will become more explicitBut what was most remarkable about read more

Exclusive: Lost Rescues Denis Leary's TV Wife!

Andrea Roth by Jemal Countess/WireImage.com

Is Rescue Me's Tommy Gavin about to suffer yet another personal tragedy? Reliable sources close to Lost confirm to me exclusively that Andrea Roth — aka Denis Leary's long-suffering spouse on Rescue Me — is joining the cast in a recurring role. Details about her character are being kept under wraps, but a recent Lost casting notice went out for a female character in her mid-thirties described as "a tough, no-nonsense and beautiful" therapist who has a tendancy to be "overly controlling and obsessive." Sounds like a no-brainer to me.Although I haven't been able to confirm the exact number of Lost episodes Roth will appear in, I imagine she'll be able to fulfill her commitment and still return to Rescue Me — that is, if there is a Rescue Me to return to. FX hasn't officially renewed the show for a fifth season. Assuming that it will be back, production will likely resume in early '08 — which would leave Roth plenty of time to squeeze in a juicy little arc on Lost.T... read more

Rescue Me Preview: Who Has the Hots for Tommy's Wife?

Rescue Me

With his rebellious daughter coming of age, his depressed wife rearing a baby that likely isn’t his, and suspicious investigators quizzing him about the cause of the beach-house blaze, Denis Leary’s Tommy Gavin has a lot of irons in the fire on this season’s Rescue Me (Wednesdays at 10 pm/ET, on FX). Tonight, Sheila (played by Callie Thorne) fills him in on the “facts” of the fire — which include a supposedly drunken Tommy. “He has this nagging self-doubt about his sobriety,” previews series cocreator Peter Tolan. “And [the fire] is another case of being with Sheila and having one of these blackouts.” In addition to cowriting and executive-produc read more

Rescue Me Star Denis Leary Isn't Afraid of Hot Topics

Denis Leary and wife Ann Lembeck at the BASH for New York's Bravest

While actor/comedian Denis Leary is familiar to many as a result of his years in the entertainment industry, the star and cocreator of FX's Rescue Me wants those who follow his work to also follow a cause that's equally close to his heart: his charity. To increase awareness of the Leary Firefighters Foundation, he held the Sixth Annual BASH for New York's Bravest fund-raiser this past Friday at New York City's famed Cipriani restaurant on Wall Street. Leary suits up as FDNY Ladder 62 firefighter Tommy Gavin on FX's hit dramedy, but his passion for the work firefighters do extends far beyond his day job. He started his foundation in 2000 after his cousin, firefighter Jerry Lucey, and a childhood friend, Lt. Tommy Spencer, lost their lives in the line of duty while battling a blaze in the actor's hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts. In orde read more

Hot Times Ahead for Rescue Me's Janet

Andrea Roth, Rescue Me

FX's Rescue Me (Tuesdays at 10pm/ET) is only three episodes into its third season, but if current story lines are any indication, the boys of Ladder 62 are in for a doozy of a ride as the episodes rage on. As Tommy Gavin's no-nonsense ex-wife, Janet, Andrea Roth has made her mark as one of the few females who can show the firehouse crew who's boss. On a recent break from filming, Andrea clued in TVGuide.com on future shakeups, breakups and makeups, and spills the beans about her upcoming film role opposite Jason "He's So Sexy!" Statham. read more
