Suburgatory Team Talks About "Leaner" Cast, and the Shays' New Addition

Suburgatory returned this past Wednesday after a 10-month hiatus and down two cast members — three if you count fan-favorite recurring guest Parker Young — but creator Emily Kapnek insists that fans shouldn't be worried about the future of Chatswin.

"From a scheduling standpoint, there was a little bit of shuffling that goes on, but I will say that [ABC President Paul Lee] has been incredibly supportive of our show," she told reporters Friday at the Television Critics Association winter TV previews. "I know that some of the scheduling stuff was hard and they're in the midst of trying to figure out what works where and we're very happy to be ....read more

Question: Last Sunday's "Hitting the Fan" episode of The Good Wife lived up to the hype. It was a game changer, but I guess it left me feeling slimed. Alicia has always taken a righteous position and walked a fine ethical line. On Sunday, I feel like she fell off a cliff — not only was she a party to trying to download files which I'm not sure is illegal but certainly not ethical (notwithstanding the ends-justify-the-means argument), but she also seemed gleeful about Peter using his political position to her gain. As Will seemed so right to point out, she seems to have no idea how bad she has become. This is not the good wife that I have been watching. What were your thoughts? — Megan

Weekend Playlist: Good Wife, Viking Finales; Carousel, Inside the TARDIS

In Sunday's brilliantly entertaining finale to another splendid season of CBS' The Good Wife — we choose to forget that Kalinda's ex ever existed — Denis O'Hare returns as a judge whose sciatica keeps him off the bench, pacing around the courtroom as he presides over a late-night emergency hearing over ballot-box irregularities in the next day's neck-and-neck election for Illinois governor. (Alicia's husband Peter is sweating every single vote.) Like Judge Abernathy, you may find it difficult to stay seated as this episode (9/8c), written by series creators Robert King (who also directed) and Michelle King, takes its many clever twists and turns, specializing in mischievous misdirection and game-changing surprises up to the very last jaw-dropping minute.

The Wednesday Playlist: Southland, Suburgatory Finales,Idol, Real-Life Glee

Without question, the hour of TV I have been most anticipating — and dreading — this week is the season, and for all we know, series finale of TNT's remarkable, brutal, bleak yet gripping cop drama Southland (Wednesday, 10/9c). Anticipating because each week, this series somehow raises the dramatic stakes for its characters, in a grueling but rewarding tour of duty through the socio-ethnic sprawl of Los Angeles. Dreading because Southland has almost always lived on the verge of ratings extinction, from the time TNT rescued the show after NBC dumped it before its second season could even premiere, and I fear (as do many) that this fifth season could very likely be its last hurrah. (Several of its stars have signed up for new work during this pilot season, perhaps seeing the writing on the wall.) read more

A Night Out With Suburgatory's Chris Parnell & Ana Gasteyer

What a pair of jokers! Chris Parnell and Ana Gasteyer cracked up audiences in the 1990s with memorable Saturday Night Live impressions like Tom Brokaw and Celine Dion. They now bring that same level of wackiness to ABC's Suburgatory as married suburbanites Fred and Sheila Shay. The duo took the stage at Los Angeles' premier improv school, the Groundlings, and reminisced about their comedy roots... read more

SNL Grads Find a New Playground on Suburgatory

In theory, the ultra-conservative, country club-going fictional town of Chatswin, N.Y., seems worlds away from the controversial, tongue-in-cheek humor of Saturday Night Live. However, thanks to the magic of Suburgatory, suburbia and Stage 8H don't feel so far apart after all.

Since debuting last year, the ABC family comedy has welcomed several SNL vets into the fold, including Ana Gasteyer, Chris Parnell and Jay Mohr. The trend continues this season with the upcoming introduction of Tim Meadows as Malik's dad and — on Wednesday's Halloween episode (9:30/8:30c on ABC) — Rachel Dratch guest-stars as Paula, Sheila Shay's (Gasteyer) childhood rival, aka "The Witch of East Chatswin."
