Fall Season Press Tour: Flying Blind With NBC | Roush Dispatch | 7/22/2008
After sitting through NBC’s frustrating and un-illuminating final day of official press tour Monday—there are a few set visits scheduled on Tuesday before whoever’s left heads for home (or in some cases Comic-Con over the weekend)—I’m tempted to say that TCA saved the worst for last. More like saving the least for last.It’s unprecedented in my memory of press tour for so many networks to screen so little of their new fall programming, but NBC really took the booby prize in giving us an entire day of hype with nothing but their word to back up the fact that they’re “incredibly happy” with the way the new sitcom Kath & Kim is coming along—despite the fact the show (based on an edgy Australian format) dumped its original director and is reshooting much of the pilot, which we only saw a few ghastly-looking moments of right before one of many awkward panels. Out of Office: Amy Poehler Gets Other NBC Sitcom | Today's News: Our Take | 7/21/2008
Remember that Office spin-off that Amy Poehler was rumored to be circling? Well, it's not dead yet, but Poehler won’t be on it, as she has nabbed another NBC show.NBC Entertainment co-chairman Ben Silverman announced Monday that they've locked in Poehler to a sitcom commitment to be produced by Office vets Greg Daniels and Mike Schur. It's unclear what the Poehler show is about. When pressed for details about a premise or setting, Silverman only said: "It's going to be... funny."The timeline for when this new show might air was also unclear. Lorne Michaels said at Sunday's Saturday Night Live panel that the currently pregnant Poehler would appear on the show until she gave birth — some time after the election hopefully, he joked. If you heard someone momentarily flatlining in the audience at the reading of the Emmy nominations Thursday morning, that was me. They were announcing the best drama series candidates and I was mostly on board as I checked my list in the back of the TV Academy theater. Damages. Yay! House. OK. Boston Legal. I don’t approve, but I’m no longer surprised. Lost. OMG! Dexter. OM-Freaking-G! Wait. That’s five. Surely they didn’t leave out . . . And they didn’t. AMC’s dazzling Mad Men, the last to be announced, not only made the cut, it made history. With 16, it’s the most nominated drama of the year, and with FX’s Damages (seven nominations total), represents basic cable’s first-ever breakthrough into the top tier of Emmy accolades for best series. Saturday Night Live vet Amy Poehler is said to be in talks to front the spin-off of NBC's The Office, currently slated for a midseason premiere. I say currently because, as the Reporter notes, pregnant Poehler is due in the fall, so some schedule rejiggering may be necessary.Thus far, outside of a deal to include comedian Aziz Ansari in the cast, nearly nothing is known as to the concept of the spin-off.Both NBC and Poehler's reps declined comment on the trade's story.
