Movie News: M. Night and Night at the Museum

Bad buzz for M. Night Shyamalan's mysterious new film already? Observant wags at Defamer note that Super Bowl ads for The Happening, starring Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo, were yanked at the last minute. Instead, the teaser debuted online, on Tuesday. What's especially disheartening is that both the Super Bowl and Shyamalan's film are Fox products, so apparently no amount of corporate synergy could overcome a lack of faith in the product. While the film's concept (an environmentally driven epidemic makes people die and/or kill themselves?) looks interesting, all his films have looked interesting at the outset but have (lately) disappointed. What do you think? Are you willing to give M. Night another shot? Or did you, like me, decide that the moral of Lady in the Water was: "Never see another Shyamalan movie"? In other movie news, Enchanted cutie-pie Amy Adams is game for A Night at the Museum 2, playing an undetermined historical figure who has a crush on Ben Stiller's watchman.... read more

X-Files 2 Update, Meryl as Julia Child, More Movie News

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson courtesy 20th Century Fox

The second X-Files movie is really, truly happening. 20th Century Fox has even blocked off July 25, 2008, as the flick's release date. Natch, plot deets are being kept hush-hush, but the pic is said to be a stand-alone thriller (Yay! No mythology!) that will further Mulder and Scully's relationship. I've got goosebumps already.... In other movie news, Meryl Streep has signed on to play Julia Child in Julie and Julia, a Nora Ephron comedy in which a disgruntled temp (Amy Adams) spends a year trying to whip up every recipe in the master's cookbook.... Teeth, the indie buzz-builder about a high school student with a toothed vagina, has had its release moved to February 2008. — Ben Katner read more

Do you have any info on ...

Question: Do you have any info on Patrick Dempsey's movie Enchanted?

Answer: I do. When I visited the Grey's set last month, Patrick had just finished work on the film. "It was so much fun," he said. "It's going to be a really big, old-fashioned musical. Amy Adams is amazing in it. I play a divorce lawyer. It's the complete opposite of McDreamy, which is nice."

Project Runway I know it's not...

Project RunwayI know it's not unusual, but it's so unfortunate that the finalists had to pull an all-nighter right before the biggest event of their career so far. Even after sewing all night, Daniel had what looked like either the show's assistants or the models themselves sewing on buttons backstage. But onstage you couldn't tell any of this, especially when he did a happy little jig for his family. I am still drooling over the white coat and the shirt with the dipping back. And I hope his and Chloe's dresses with pockets (along with Amy Adams' and Sandra Bullock's Oscar dresses) are the start of a trend. On the other hand, the first jacket looked like a couch, and when Rebecca tripped away in that brown dress, I could see M read more

Joan Melissa LIVE at the Academy...

George Clooney

Joan & Melissa LIVE at the Academy Awards5:30: I'm so glad my colleagues over at the channel have decided to go blue for the red carpet. Setting the tone for the evening, Joan Rivers begins with a slightly disturbing scene in which she spreads 'em for Matt Dillon in Crash and groans a lot. And she warns us that there are many more such scenes from the nominated movies to come. Next she gives a nod to Isaac Mizrahi's infamously presumptuous Golden Globes coverage at rival E!. "I would never be so presumptuous!" she declares while she pokes Lisa Rinna in the boob. Instead of groping her interviewees, she'll be using cards to indicate whether they are wearing underwear and/or have real breasts. This'll be interesting. 5:33: Joan gives her own thank-you speech tailor-made to offend her entire crew: "We are color-blind here at TV Guide. Right, black person?" Then she fills the time read more
