24's Rajskub Cooks Up Role in Julie and Julia | Movie News | 4/4/2008
Mary Lynn Rajskub is trading computer codes for cookbooks in the upcoming film Julie and Julia. The 24 smarty joins Amy Adams and Meryl Streep in the story of a woman, Julie Powell, who takes a year off to cook and blog about all 524 recipes in Julia Child's famous gastronomic tome, Mastering the Art of French Cooking (from which most of my childhood meals were derived). Streep will play the star chef, whose life in the 1940s and '50s will also be depicted.Rajskub, meanwhile, plays Helen, best friend of Powell (portrayed by Adams). Hello everyone. Happy rainy Saturday night. I had a nap today just so I could rally myself to write you the recap of your lives. Actually I just ate too much sugar and passed out. You might only get a half-conscious recap now. Maybe that's for the best considering last week's terrible show with Ellen Page.So, let's just jump into the show, shall we? Cold OpeningAmy Poehler is Hillary once again. Did you expect anything else? "She approves of this message," which is actually a spoof of her "Who will answer the phone," campaign commercial. Black and white stills of Hillary in cold cream and a shower cap cut to black and white sills of Obama in the White House as president. He's been calling her every two seconds for advice on everything from foreign policy to finding the heating reset button in the basement. Movie News: M. Night and Night at the Museum | Today's News: Our Take | 2/5/2008
Bad buzz for M. Night Shyamalan's mysterious new film already? Observant wags at Defamer note that Super Bowl ads for The Happening, starring Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo, were yanked at the last minute. Instead, the teaser debuted online, on Tuesday. What's especially disheartening is that both the Super Bowl and Shyamalan's film are Fox products, so apparently no amount of corporate synergy could overcome a lack of faith in the product. While the film's concept (an environmentally driven epidemic makes people die and/or kill themselves?) looks interesting, all his films have looked interesting at the outset but have (lately) disappointed. What do you think? Are you willing to give M. Night another shot? Or did you, like me, decide that the moral of Lady in the Water was: "Never see another Shyamalan movie"? X-Files 2 Update, Meryl as Julia Child, More Movie News | Today's News: Our Take | 11/1/2007
The second X-Files movie is really, truly happening. 20th Century Fox has even blocked off July 25, 2008, as the flick's release date. Natch, plot deets are being kept hush-hush, but the pic is said to be a stand-alone thriller (Yay! No mythology!) that will further Mulder and Scully's relationship. I've got goosebumps already.... In other movie news, Meryl Streep has signed on to play Julia Child in Julie and Julia, a Nora Ephron comedy in which a disgruntled temp (Amy Adams) spends a year trying to whip up every recipe in the master's cookbook.... Per the Hollywood Reporter, Amy Adams is in talks to play the nun caught in the middle when a Catholic-school principal (Meryl Streep) accuses a priest (Philip Seymour Hoffman) of pedophilia in Doubt, based on the Pulitzer-winning stage play.... Angela Bassett has been cast as the single mother in Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns.... David Strathairn is Elizabeth Banks' hubby in the horror remake A Tale of Two Sisters....
