The Machine is affected by a virus that causes it to put out erratic numbers. Meanwhile, the team look for an elusive tech millionaire; and Det. Carter works to bring down Cal Beecher's killer, but her mission has unintended consequences.
In the Season 5 premiere, Reese and Finch try to save the Machine's source code before it deteriorates beyond repair; Root fights for her life against Samaritan's agents; and Fusco faces questions following the deaths of Dominic and Elias.

Ted decides to make a final grand gesture to win over Robin. Then he learns she's planning to go on a weekend camping trip that includes her co-anchor, Sandy Rivers (Alexis Denisof), who also has feelings for her. Penelope: Amy Acker.
Finch receives 38 numbers at once, which turn out to be connected to a mysterious person who is instigating a major conflict between HR and the Russian mob. Meanwhile, Carter's past with her son's father is revealed through a series of flashbacks.
