Young Hollywood Awards Bring Hot Stars, Cool Scoop

Thomas Dekker by Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com

"It takes a special kind of person to be part of young Hollywood," host Aisha Tyler told the audience at Hollywood Life's 10th Annual Young Hollywood Awards, before rattling off the undergarmentless achievements of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and friends. But at Avalon nightclub, the young ones honored were far from the scandalous kind. Chris O'Donnell, America Ferrera, J.J. Abrams and more took center stage to honor those on the cusp of breaking through, purely on the basis of their talent. TV Guide caught up with Thomas Dekker on the red carpet, who, despite sweltering conditions, was the epitome of cool. And for good reason — Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles are back this fall, bigger than ever. "I'm so excited. We're going to have to crank [the episodes] out pretty quick because we're going on in October." Viewers can look forward to an action-packed 13 episodes. "A lot of very dark twists immediately take place right at the beginning," teases Dekker.... read more

The film, which Ferrera is also exec-producing and starring in, features fellow Betty castmate Tony Plano, as well as Gilmore Girls' David Sutcliffe. The bilingual thriller should hit screens this spring.... South Korean pop star Rain is poised to make an international splash with a starring role in the Wachowskis' new film, Ninja Assassin. SAG Goes Mad for Men

30 Rock's Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin by Mary Ellen Mathews/NBC Photo

I suppose I could dwell on the fact that a major Hollywood guild has once again ignored the very existence of TV's finest acting ensemble, Friday Night Lights — in favor of the mugging and posturing on Boston Legal. As they'd say on another SAG favorite, Grey's Anatomy: Seriously? Is it wrong to want to form our own picket line? Also: What's up with snubbing Pushing Daisies and its fantastical cast? And yet the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, announced Thursday morning, did shower love on my favorite new show of 2007, AMC's Mad Men, and its terrific star, Jon Hamm (who has just joined the cast of the remake of the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still, with Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, which sounds appropriately robotic). So while not all may be forgiven, the wound stings a little less.My favorite part of the SAG Awards is the ensemble-cast category. Because let's face it, most great TV shows rely on cast chemistry. Even The Closer, which on face value looks like a vehi... read more

Geek Love Blossoms Again

Episode Recap: "A League of Their Own"Henry + Betty = Love. So, what do you think? I know many of you, like me, adore the adorkable Henry, and think he and Betty are perfect for each other. But others have commented that Betty needs someone like Gio, a guy who will challenge her and bring some spice into her life (and who doesn't have a child by another woman, at least as far as we know, to complicate matters). You have a point, too. According to the promo for next week, it looks like the renewed relationship won't be all roses. But honestly, I don't know that Betty would have survived (or understood) the ways of online dating, starting with the importance of watching your spelling. At the Pinz bowling alley, once Niceguy47 made a remark about her photo and kept glancing at his watch, we all knew he'd bail. Oh, Betty, so blissfully ignorant to the New York dating scene! But our Henry was there, watching out for her — or jealously stalking her. Their just-friends mantra failed m... read more
