Review: Extant and New NBC Summer Comedies

In space, no one can see you conceive. That appears to be the weird but intriguing premise of CBS's high-profile summer fantasy drama Extant, a show put into play after last year's successful summer run of the network's increasingly absurd Under the Dome. While Wednesday's pilot episode (9/8c) of Extant (all that was available for review) lacks the sort of unforgettable "wow" moment provided by the severed cow in Dome's opener, the new series also seems less likely to lapse irrevocably into silly hysteria.

NBC Discusses Changes at Parks and Rec, 30 Rock and The Office

As if convening a 12-step meeting, NBC executives began their presentation at the Television Critics Association fall TV previews by reciting some of the basic truths of their network's current situation.

"We recognize some of the mistakes we've made over the last few years. We put more money in development and we believe in our projects," Jeff Gaspin, the chairman of NBC Entertainment, said Friday.

Katey Sagal has been tapped to star in Sons of Anarchy, an FX drama pilot from The Shield's Kurt Sutter (aka Sagal's real-life hubby), says the Reporter. The drama centers on Jack (Undeclared's Charles Hunnam), a twentysomething guy trying to juggle his role as a new dad with his involvement in the titular motorcycle club founded by his late father. Sagal plays Jack's mother and the matriarch of the club. The Sopranos' Allen Coulter is directing the pilot. Me, I already have bugs in my teeth. read more
