UPN is teaming with Alicia Keys to develop a drama loosely based on the Grammy-winning R&B chanteuse's childhood. Born to a white mother and black father (who split when she was a toddler), Keys was raised in NYC's Hell's Kitchen and started learning classical piano at age 6. The tentative title: "Everybody Hates Practicing Their Scales." read more

GAMBLING PROBLEM... OR GAMBLING SOLUTION?

Well, this is one way to get out of diaper duty: Ben Affleck is set to star opposite Jeremy Piven, Ryan Reynolds and Alicia Keys in Smokin' Aces, a feature about a Vegas magician (Entourage's Piven) marked for murder. "You'll be shocked to see a very different Ben Affleck in this movie," Reynolds tells the Chicago Sun-Times. Which I think means that Matt Damon will be playing him. read more

GRAMMY LOVES MIMI

Mariah Carey, Kanye West and John Legend are the early favorites for the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, having garnered eight nominations each this morning. Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé Knowles, 50 Cent, Stevie Wonder and the Black Eyed Peas (I love those lumps!) follow with six nods apiece. The first batch of performers has been announced for Friday's multinetwork telethon, Shelter from the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast, and they include newly engaged Sheryl Crow, the Dixie Chicks, Alicia Keys, Randy Newman, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart and Neil Young. Among the nonmusically inclined celebs slated to appear are Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Nicholson, Chris Rock, Ray Romano and Sela Ward.
