ABC Family's The Lying Game may be based on the book of the same name, but the similarities pretty much end there.
"People who have loved the book will still get the tone in the series, but it takes on a life of its own," executive producer Charles Pratt, Jr. (Melrose Place) tells TVGuide.com. "Everybody you see on this show is somehow tied into the mystery, which is probably our biggest departure."

Former Heroes star Adrian Pasdar has been cast on ABC Family's new series The Lying Game, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
The Lying Game — based on the books by Sara Shepard, who also authored Pretty Little Liars — introduces separated-at-birth twins Emma Becker and Sutton Mercer (both played by Alexandra Chando). It starts out like The Parent Trap: The sisters switch places so that Emma can experience the trappings of wealth while Sutton pursues the identity of their birth mother. But it gets much darker when Sutton doesn't show on the night the girls are supposed to reunite. Does Emma come clean or continue their deception?

ABC Family announced an ambitious summer slate Monday that includes a series about being switched at birth, Raven-Symoné's headlining comedy and the return of Pretty Little Liars.
Leading off on Monday, June 6 at 9/8c is Switched at Birth. The one-hour drama follows two teens, Daphne and Bay, from different backgrounds who learn they were accidentally switched as newborns in the hospital. The families eventually meet and must learn how to live together. Newcomer Katie Leclerc plays Daphne and Vanessa Marano (Gilmore Girls) is Bay. Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), Constance Marie (George Lopez), D.W. Moffett (Friday Night Lights) and High School Musical's Lucas Grabeel co-star.
