Alex Proyas Fast Facts:
  • Attended the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney with director Jane Campion (The Piano) and worked on two of her early shorts.
  • Before breaking into movies, he helmed music videos for Fleetwood Mac, INXS and Sting and made commercials for Nissan, Coca-Cola and Swatch.
  • Directed his first feature in 1989, the post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds.
  • Was nominated for Best Director at the 1994 Saturn Awards for The Crow, which grossed nearly $95 million worldwide. The film's star, Brandon Lee, was accidentally shot and killed during the shoot.
