Tod Browning's controversial story involving deformed sideshow performers. Use of real "freaks" caused this cult classic to be banned upon release!
In the sometimes forgotten prologue, the barker (Murray Kinnell) lures spectators, then director Tod Browning introduces Hans and Freida (Harry and Daisy Earles) and the already evil-seeming 'Cleopatra' (Olga Balaclova), in the influential box-office flop Freaks, 1932.
Joining director King Vidor's opening, star Marion Davies (as 'Peggy Pepper') and her father the colonel (Dell Henderson) arrive in Hollywood, spying the real John Gilbert entering the fictional 'Mammoth' Studios, in the hit comedy Show People, 1928, also starring William Haines.
