Al Franken: God Spoke (2006) -- MovieMaze.de - Trailer (Quicktime) watch

Al Franken (D-Minn.) and John Thune (R-S.D.) were off the charts on Monday, at least by the Senate's typical debate standards. In response to a speech by Thune, fourth in the Republican leadership, the freshman legislator honed in on claims made about benefits in the proposed health reform package."We are entitled to our own opinions. We're not entitled to our own facts," said Franken. "Benefits kick in right away, and if you're going to hold up a chart that says when taxes kick in and when benefits kick in, you say '1,800 days,' you better include the benefits that do kick in right away."Thune asked Franken to yield for a question, which led to a terse exchange."We gave the other side 30 minutes," chimed in Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio). "Senator Thune wants to sort of monopolize our 30 minutes.""We are entitled to our own opinions. We're not entitled to our own facts," Franken repeated after the back-and-forth. "The fact is benefits kick in on day one, and the large majority of benefits kick

Al Franken Wins Minnesota Senate Race

After a protracted recount, comedian-turned-politician Al Franken has won the Minnesota Senate race to give Democrats a 60-seat majority in the U.S. Senate.

The state's Supreme Court declared Franken, a Saturday Night Live alum, the winner on Tuesday by 312 votes out of 2.9 million cast. Republican incumbent Norm Coleman then conceded the drawn-out fight.

Al Franken Senate Recount Win Held up By Lawsuit

Comedian and former Saturday Night Live cast member Al Franken is a U.S. senator. Sort of.

Although Minnesota's Canvassing Board certified Franken as the winner of the lengthy recount on Monday, a legal challenge by Republican incumbent Norm Coleman may keep the results from becoming official a while longer, according to The Associated Press. Coleman, who initially was believed to have a 215-vote lead, is arguing that ... read more

Senator Al Franken Is No Joke

On the last day his radio show, Air America, was broadcast, Saturday Night Live alumn Al Franken announced that he will indeed run for Senate in 2008. "Minnesotans have a right to... wonder how seriously I would take [this] responsibility," he said in a video posted on his website. "[But] nothing means more to me than making government work better for the working families of this state." Plus, he's good enough, he's smart enough, and doggonit, people like him enough that I think he just might pull this off. read more

So, let me get this straight....

So, let me get this straight. We have a pro-choice Republican presidential candidate taking on a pro-life Democrat and both are struggling to keep the election from going negative. As Kevin Costner said in JFK, "we're through the looking glass, people." Now, I don't mind that The West Wing engages in political wish fulfillment. Hell, that's why we all watch it, right? But, if real politics worked like this, even Al Franken and Bill O'Reilly wouldn't know who to hate. First, the Republican Vinick wants to keep abortion out of his campaign altogether. Then, the liberal Santos tells pro-choice lobbyists where to get off. Things get even stranger in that kitchen showdown when Vinick accepts Santos' debate challenge, on the spot, because they bump into each other backstage. What is this, the WWE? Let's just hope that next week's read more
