The Goldbergs is based on Adam F. Goldberg's childhood, but how much of Season 1's wacky adventures really happened? A lot. "In a lot of ways, I have to pull back because some of the stories are so crazy," he tells TVGuide.com. "Even with the [home] videos at the end of the episodes, people still don't believe me." We caught up with Goldberg to get the true story behind on some of this season's most memorable story lines (ironically, the Goonies worshipper never did his own treasure hunt as a kid, but he "really hope[s]"Goonies 2 happens), what you can expect on Tuesday's finale and what he hopes to do in Season 2.
Tuesday's Star Wars episode of The Goldbergs finds Adam (Sean Giambrone) and Erica (Hayley Orrantia) camping out for Return of the Jedi tickets. Beverly is nowhere in line, which is fine but a tad surprising to Wendi McLendon-Covey.

Goldberg, a lifelong Star Wars nut, will flash back to the 1983 release of Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi for the sitcom's May 6 episode (9/8c, ABC). The plot has young Adam (Sean Giambrone) blackmailing his sister, Erica (Hayley Orrantia), to wait in line with him on opening day of the movie, where they meet a bunch of costumed fans including guest star Thomas Lennon.
Get ready to meet Adam's worst nightmare.
On Tuesday's The Goldbergs (9/8c, ABC), Adam (Sean Giambrone) will get bullied on the school bus by eighth grader J.C. Spink (Cooper Roth), who relishes every chance he gets to torment "Adam Goldnerd."
