October 19, 2006: Arrow

So did you check out Lana Lang? Since moving in with Lex, the sly girl must have been taking copious notes on how to blackmail and let your dark side loose. You know what? I kinda liked her being all evil in the elevator with Dr. Groll. I think I said this last season, and many others have mentioned in this blog; if they're going to have Lana involved with Lex, have her show some serious shades of gray. No more goody-goody self-righteous Lana; let the girl go on with her bad self. I think I'd just be able to stomach these two more if they were both on the same not-so-prim-and-proper page. And Lex in cahoots with Lionel in order to test his woman? I like that, too. But I'm guessin' Lana won't have a problem with pesky "trust" issues now that she's traveling down a darkened path. I hope she dives right into the deep end of the evil pool. Why have warm and fuzzy when you can have cold and calculating?More Green Arrow, no waiting. Justin Hartley continues to do a nice job, although can'... read more

October 18, 2006: The Liver Was Like, "Hello, I'm a Liver."

I was kind of depressed after finding out who won Project Runway, so right about now I really wish I had some of Mia's Southern fried comfort food to keep me company. Aside from that, it's such a good thing that Top Chef is back for Season 2. A new host, new parameters for our man Tom Callichio and Season 1 winner Harold all made for a good episode. Not quite sure if I'm going to dig these finalists as much as I enjoyed last season's dysfunctional group, but I'm willing to reserve judgment and make that call at a later date. Topics of discussion:-Is Marcel the new Stephen?-What do you think of Padma?Right off the bat, it seems like Marcel has that arrogant, cocky thing going for him. He doesn't have that upturned nose and "does something smell" expression on his face that was just so Stephen, but he's already seeing himself as the resident threat. Give him a little time and he'll be lecturing everyone on the benefits of being a sommelier and the origins of the turnip. By the way, du... read more

October 12, 2006: Bloodlust

Another week another seriously good hour of TV Loved the use of Journeys Wheel in the Sky for the recap Probably my favorite classic-rock recap since Salvation Loved the way they incorporated Everybody Loves a Clown and ended on the sound of the crowbar Dean dropped to the ground after he went to town on the trunk of the Impala Speaking of the Impala how freakin awesome was it to see that baby running again The Impalas back sos ACDCs Back in Black It just does a Supernatural fans heart good to see Dean at the wheel Sammy in the passenger seat the two of them bantering back-and-forth Things were finally lighthearted for a little bit a refreshing change after getting so much heavy angst in this seasons first two episodes not to mention the darkness and angst of Season 1s last three episodes The show paid the car a nice tribute After all the Impala is pretty much another character on the showThe case that Dean was so giddy to take on was real read more

October 12, 2006: Wither

Jimmy Olsen was initiated into the weird ways of Smallville (he got nabbed by the villain du jour); the All-American Rejects played Lex's masquerade ball; and Lex and Lana made love. But who really cares when we can just talk about all the Chloe love in this episode. The young reporter pretty much saved the day three times:1) She used a taser to save Clark from the evil vines.2) She saved Jimmy Olsen from some more evil vines, then used the defibrillator to bring him back to life. I won't even talk about why the EMT's left Chloe and Jimmy alone in the back of the ambulance. 3) I guess you can also say she helped Lana reach some clarity as far as her relationship with Lex Luthor.Plus, Chloe managed to actually make out with a boy at Make-Out Point and have another guy (Clark) pine for her after finding out about this impromptu make-out session. Jimmy even called her "my girl." "The girl is on a roll y'all. Can't say that about Clark, however. I'm sorry, but that last shot of him all... read more

October 5, 2006: Everybody Loves a Clown

Ive been trying to psych myself up for Everybody Loves a Clown since last week I Hate Clowns Maybe this clown phobia started when I saw Poltergeist back in the day and that toy clown attacked the kid Or it may have even been Tim Curry in the Stephen King miniseries It Well everything scared me in that one except for that silly cartoon ending So you have to know that this episode creeped me out big time The killer clown makes nicey-nice with the kids at the carnival then later shows up at their house where it offs their parents Thats scary It kept on waving to the kids and then holding their hands Even though there really was no gore the creep factor was on high To me its often scarier when you dont see the blood and the guts What I really loved was that Sammy had a bit of a clown phobia too and Dean took advantage of that So cute So funnyAre you surprised that I actually talked about the scares before all the angst of the episode Because usually i read more

October 5, 2006: Sneeze

The Zod-related events of Season 5's finale and last week's season premiere have now been dubbed "Dark Thursday." This is so spot-on, because we all know that every news outlet races against time to come up with catchy names to describe freak occurrences as well as big global or domestic tragedies and events. Now in the aftermath of all the destruction, an exhausted Clark is trying to single-handedly rebuild Smallville. Unfortunately, he has to do it while dealing with a very human cold. Except when he sneezes, he blows a barn door off its hinges. This cold serves two purposes: Clark (along with Chloe's much-needed help) realizes he can use his newly discovered super-breath to his advantage; and Lois Lane apparently forgets all about her political career to finally make the jump into journalism. Or whatever you want to call the article she writes that gets published in the "Inquisitor." I cannot believe she snagged herself a byline the first time out. I had to go to grad school and ... read more

September 28, 2006: In My Time of Dying

Im just so glad this show is back on the air This second season premiere gave us so much goodness some questions and lots of sadness specifically when John seemingly sacrificed himself for his son Lets just take this one step at a time howeverThe recap This time it was set to Ted Nugents Stranglehold this is a song I admittedly dont know much about but the title and some of the lyrics say it all It feels like an appropriate song to kick things off even though I still think Kansas Carry on My Wayward Son set the standard for these classic-rock recaps The crash aftermath Im not sure why the demon inside the trucker just took off after Sam threatened to kill it with the Colt Self-preservation maybe From the looks of the crash it seemed like John would have been even more beat up huh But then we wouldnt have gotten the face down with the demon if that had happened Also not sure how much time spanned from the accident to Dean realizing he was in a com read more

September 28, 2006: Kneel Before Zod

So, how Superman II was it when L-Zod uttered: "Kneel Before Zod"? Then Clark does kneel and takes his hand with Zod thinking he holds all the power in the world. But, of course, that's not how things turned out. Clark got the best of him just like in the movie. Was it me or did the Zod that got flushed out of existence look a tad like Terence Stamp circa 1980? Maybe it's just me.Martha and Lois ended up in the Fortress of Solitude. (Has everyone on the show been there?) I did appreciate Jor-El thanking Martha for raising Clark. When the action wasn't at the Fortress, it was in the Phantom Zone, where a powerless Clark wasn't a match for anyone or thing on that prison planet, including that Kryptonian dude from the Season 5 premiere — he and his posse got a few good licks in before Jor-El's assistant Raya gave up her life to get Clark out of the Zone. When the action wasn't in the Fortress or the Zone, it was with Lana and L-Zod. In a continuation from last season, Lana continu... read more

January 10, 2006: Scarecrow

Six weeks Six weeks Thats how long WB made us wait to find out if that really was Big Daddy Winchester on the phone Not to mention whether or not his truly spectacularly hot sons were going to have to throw down over what happened at the asylum Cruel Yes But I can forgive easily when the show brings it with some juicy brotherly dysfunction The plethora of issues plaguing Sam and Dean are a big part of the reason why this is my favorite new show of the season Sure the town sacrificing couples to a scarecrow is creepy Using the Cigarette-Smoking Man from The X-Files as a professor who helps nab Dean was a great casting move But the whole bro breakup and then makeup is what really entertained me Talk about uncomfortable Dean all blindly following their dads orders the dad who ditched him by the way And Sam all focusing in on tracking down his paranormal-chasing-pops so he can find the thing that killed his mom and his girlfriend But you know Sam and Dean arent th read more
