Long before Dempsey stepped into Derek Shepherd's sexy scrubs, he was (hidden-talent alert!) a champion juggler and avid student of the circus arts, and it's clear as he pedals around the set clad in a black tux that he's still got serious skills. "I'm tired of being an international superstar," he cracks. "I'm running away to join the circus!"

The Voice will be singing a familiar tune when it returns for Season 5 on Monay, as original coaches Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green reclaim their spinning red chairs alongside bromancers Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. And it seems Shelton — who has coached the last three winners of NBC's hit singing competition, including 17-year-old reigning champ Danielle Bradbery — wasted no time pushing the returnees' buttons. "He reminded us on many occasions that he is welcoming us back to his show," says Aguilera with a laugh. "It felt as if we never left."

While the quip is delivered with a smile, Shakira is not about to sit idly by and let Adam Levine, who quickly jumps to her defense, have all the fun. Especially when the Latin-music crossover star can deliver a smackdown in more than one language — which she handily does, to resounding cheers from the packed live audience.

Thanks to a rigorous production schedule, Season 4's blind auditions, featuring new coaches Shakira and Usher, are already under way while Season 3 is in the midst of its live finals. No wonder the Maroon 5 frontman rubs his eyes sleepily as he sinks into a sofa on the Universal lot in Hollywood. "It's been harder-than-hard hours," admits Levine, 33, effortlessly cool in jeans and a white tee. "But as difficult as it is, it's still really fun because it's rewarding work."
