Serena Williams defeated Li Na of China on Friday 6-0, 6-3 and has advancd to the U.S. Open final, The Associated Press reports.

Williams will face off against second seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus on Sunday. Last year, Azarenka nearly beat Williams in the final, until the tennis star moved ahead to 7-5 in the third set.

Aaron Hernandez Pleads Not Guilty to First Degree Murder

Aaron Hernandez pleaded not guilty to first degree murder on Friday, The Associated Press reports. In addition to the murder charge, Hernandez also pleaded not guilty to five other charges, including weapons and ammunition possession charges, in the shooting death of a friend.

His attorneys agreed that Hernandez will continue to be held without bail, but reserved the right to request it later. Hernandez is due back in court Oct. 9.

Angelina Jolie to Receive Honorary Academy Award

Angelina Jolie will receive an honorary Academy Award for her humanitarian work, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday. In addition to Jolie, who won Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted in 2000, Angela LansburySteve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi will also receive honorary awards.

"The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields," Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in a statement. "We couldn't be more excited for this year's honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements."

George Zimmerman's wife Shellie has filed for divorce, ABC News reports.

Shellie, 26, stayed with her husband of six years while he stood trial for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin in February 2012. George, 29, was acquitted of murder on July 14.
