The Young and the Restless

The most desperate housewife in soaps — The Young and the Restless' Nikki Newman — has secretly gone off the wagon after years of sobriety. But on October 21 she'll get busted! This vodka-sluggin' mama, played by the blazingly brilliant Melody Thomas Scott, didn't mean to relapse. Blame it on her nogoodnik secretary Meggie (Sean Young) who got Nikki hooked again by quietly spiking her fruit smoothies. Now Meggie, who wants to get her mitts on Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and his moolah, has joined forces with town pariah Deacon (Sean Kanan) to ruin the upcoming Nikki-Victor nuptials. Will they succeed? Will Nikki end up in Deacon's bed? TV Guide Magazine got the scoop from Thomas Scott.

TV Guide Magazine: Best. Storyline. Ever. There's nothing like our Nikki back on the sauce! It's been too long!
Thomas Scott: I was never happy with the way her initial addiction to drinking and pills ended so unrealistically years ago. She just woke up one morning and was fine. I mentioned that to [current Y&R head writer] Maria Bell at lunch ...

One Life to Live Execs Open Up About Their New Longterm Deals

Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati

As reported exclusively here last week, ABC Daytime has made a break with corporate tradition and confirmed new multi-year deals with One Life to Live's executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati. This is an obvious effort to quell the cancellation rumors that have plagued OLTL for months. Valentini, now in his eighth year as showrunner, has re-upped for two more. Carlivati has signed for three years. Because ABC owns its soaps, this is the closest it comes to a show pickup. But is it truly a reason to rejoice? TV Guide Magazine corralled Valentini and Carlivati to find out.... read more

Laura Wright

It's the confrontation of the century! Okay, so I exaggerate but not by much. That would be Brenda Barrett (Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo), the desperately needy international supermodel who recently returned to Port Charles and has all of Carly's men (Jax, Sonny, Jason) uncontrollably obsessed. But don't assume mantrap Brenda has the upper hand here. "Carly will eventually get the keys to the kingdom," GH head writer Bob Guza tells TV Guide Magazine. "She will wind up with the ammunition that can completely destroy Brenda in Port Charles." But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We spoke with the fantastic and woefully underappreciated Laura Wright — not one damn Emmy nomination ever! — to get her take on the long-awaited ...
