Dancing's Maks: It Was "Pretty Obvious" Aaron's Time Was Winding Down

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great weekend! Are you all ready for the semis?

It's unfortunate Aaron left last week since he was a good dancer, but also, it's a shame for them to get eliminated after scoring that high and to know there's not a big fan following. I think it goes to show it's all about the votes. It is what it is. I personally think they knew they were going to go. It was pretty obvious when you get sent to a dance-off with two 10s that your time may not last too much longer. But stranger things have happened. He was one of the better dancers, but I guess not one of the ...

Dancing's Maks: Judges Were A Lot Better

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments again.

First, I want to close the chapter on the judges before getting into the dances. I felt like they were better Monday night and did not have the "insanity bug." I applaud them for sticking to the job requirements and giving some constructive criticism. Bruno is still heavily auditioning for something, but it was a lot better. I'm fine with all the gimmicks if there's a right balance with what they're supposed to do. The only thing that I don't understand is that Carrie Ann has shows where she does not point out one mishap everyone sees and then has shows where she points out the tiniest things that nobody sees, like what she did with Joanna in her paso doble. This is when you feel like she wasn't ready to give a 10. But overall, I thought their marks were OK and their comments were more productive and helpful. The funny thing is, I was backstage with a bunch of people and ...

Dancing's Maks Hopes Judges Won't Have "Insanity Bug" This Week

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend. Thank you for all of your comments last week! It was great to see your responses. Honestly, I'm so tired of superficial stuff and I felt like I needed to say what was on my mind and I'm glad I did.

The whole situation reminds me of ESPN or a sports network. They're amazing, but there are so many people that are talking generically. You watch a game and the "analysts" are like: "Well, if the quarterback would throw the ball more accurately, then they would have better success at catching it." OK, really? Thanks for telling me that. This kind of stuff they do a lot and once in a while you get somebody who can actually formulate thoughts and actually talk about things honestly and intellectually ...

Dancing's Maks: Judges Need to Stop Their Antics

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments once again. I have a lot of thoughts about Monday's show, so let's get right down to it.

First of all, I thought I was in the Twilight Zone because I didn't understand what was happening and what was going on with the results. Don't get me wrong. I love everybody there, but the judges were not making any sense at all and that bothered me.

With all due respect, Len, Bruno and Carrie Ann are great. I love them. They all bring a unique character to the show and known worldwide for it, but they are being looked to for expert opinion on dancing and nobody wants to see them ...

Dancing's Maks Takes Up Golfing, Wishes Karina and Aaron the Best

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great Halloween! Thanks for your comments again. I'm finding that more and more people are getting educated about dance — not just from me — and I love it.

The Taylor Swift performance last week was fun. I don't know how our outfits translated on-screen, but in reality, we were being laughed at. I love those kinds of costumes though. I did it for Halloween and a few years ago, I went to a friend's birthday party and it was a ...

Dancing's Maks: Mambo Marathon Was Closest Thing to a Real Ballroom Competition

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments once again! I just finished camera-blocking for the results show. As you may have heard, I'm dancing during a Taylor Swift number. The routine is great. It's one of those really fun numbers. Jonathan and Anna choreographed it. It's very ballroom-y. We're having a great time with it. We're dancing up on the balcony and all that. It's a younger generation-type song, so we're really enjoying ourselves.

It's nice to be back in L.A. As I said in my last entry, I went home for a few days. I had an amazing time in New York. I surprised everybody when I was home. My manager thought she had an appointment for me with somebody ...

Dancing's Maks: Show Format Needs to Be "Re-Thought"

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great week. Thanks for your comments about the Michael Jackson dance! I had a blast doing it. To do it in front of his mother and most of his family was the most amazing thing I could've ever done in my life. I've gotten to do so many things in the past five years that would make me say, "I can die right now and I'm good to go," and then something else comes up and something else comes up. It's quite incredible.

The performance was pre-taped because it was such a big production and the whole cast was involved. We taped it about 15 minutes ...

Dancing's Maks "Proud" of Joanna Krupa, Ready for Michael Jackson Tribute

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

I hope you enjoyed my Argentine tango with Joanna. It was a lot of fun! Right now, I'm rehearsing for the Michael Jackson tribute on the results show. It's going well. There are a lot of people and we're getting through it and getting a lot of things done. It's going to be a fun dance and a fun experience.

As I said last time, the tribute will be three numbers. Derek and Mark choreographed the first, I choreographed the second and we kind of all choreographed the third one under Cheryl's tutelage. Everybody is stepping in for the third number, which will a big thing. A bunch of Jacksons are going to be there and at the risk of sounding cocky — like Maks! — I'm not nervous. Just kidding! I just want to do a good job. I'm having a ...

Dancing's Maks Says Show Is a "Social Experiment"

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments and messages again. I've had busy week and before we get into Dancing, I want to mention a very important event I went to last week.

I had the privilege of attending the Free the Slaves Freedom Awards and it was amazing! I had no idea what to expect going into it. I was totally blind to things like this — modern-day slavery. It was interesting to find out the facts. While I was doing the red carpet, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore showed up and all these big actors were there, so it was a very publicized event and now a lot of people are jumping onboard to raise awareness and help out. When you hear it, you don't really think about stuff like that: "Like, really? Slaves in 2009?" Somebody asked me on the carpet what I think we should do and I think just the knowledge that there are more people out there than whoever facilitates human trafficking is already something to think about. It gets more people involved and makes the police become aware of this. I think we can change it. I was totally shocked and surprised and very happy to be a part of it.

As for Dancing, I was ...

Dancing's Maks Reflects on Elimination, Sets Record Straight on "Bad Guy" Reputation

Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your comments and support. It's been great, and Debi and I really appreciate it. We got eliminated, but that's the show and the way it is. We had a great time and I'm glad I was paired with Debi. I know I have a friend for life.

Even though Tom DeLay withdrew, I wasn't surprised they still eliminated a couple. The show has an overwhelming number of couples. On paper, when they decided to go with 16 couples and double eliminations, it looked ...
