How I Met Your Mother Episode Recap: "Jenkins"

Neil Patrick Harris makes his directing debut with this week's episode. Hey, it's something to get us through while we bemoan the fact that he was snubbed again at the Golden Globes. Sigh. There's trouble between Marshall and Lily as he finds himself attracted to a comely new lawyer at GNB. Meanwhile, Robin is thrilled (and more than a little smug) when she finds out that most of the students in Ted's class actually watch her morning news show. Of course, things aren't quite what they seem...

How I Met Your Mother Episode Recap: "Girls vs. Suits"

Hello, Mother fans! Welcome to the first episode of 2010...and the 100th episode of the series! (Can you believe it?) Barney faces a tough choice when a smoking hot bartender asks him to give up his suits, and Ted comes thisclose to meeting the titular Mother. This episode was chock-full of awesome, from guest stars to a big musical number to a surprise cameo. There's a lot to cover here, so let's get to it!

Future Ted tells us that you never know when you're about to meet someone important. This leads into the true story of how he met the kids' mother...'s roommate. Sigh. So close. But this story is entirely about the roommate, a cute Columbia student named Cindy (Rachel Bilson). Ted first encounters Cindy as she's trying to ward off a group of losers who are trying to get her to drink with them. As a faculty member, Ted deems it his duty to confiscate the alcohol — except for the pack of hard lemonade one meathead is sporting. Ted and Cindy share a drink in Ted's classroom, where Cindy reveals that a) she's a PhD student, and b) that she was in Ted's "wrong" classroom on his first day of teaching, and she thought he was a complete (but cute) idiot. Ted makes this work for himself by asking her if she ever dates cute idiots. Her response? "Almost exclusively." Go Ted!

How I Met Your Mother Episode Recap: "Last Cigarette Ever"

Hey readers, did you know that Ted, Robin, Marshall, Lily and Barney are all smokers? Neither did I. Neither do Ted's kids — because he never told them. Or us. For four and a half seasons. But this week, we learn that they do all occasionally smoke and perpetually try to quit, but when one of them falls off the wagon, they all fall off the wagon. Meanwhile, Robin has issues with a new (and completely unprofessional) co-worker.

How I Met Your Mother Episode Recap: "The Window"

In this week's episode, Ted valiantly tries to get a date with a girl who's been perpetually coupled for as long as he's known her — we're talking 12 years here. Meanwhile, Marshall has an existential crisis when he finds a letter he wrote to himself when he was 15, and Barney tries to prove that he can get laid even while wearing really terrible mid-'90s-style denim overalls.

Marshall enters Ted and Robin's apartment with a gigantic box full of stuff. Apparently, his mother sends him his old things every once in a while, as mothers do. It's mostly useless clutter, like He-Man's left arm or an old Mad Libs book. As Marshall starts digging through the box, Ted's phone rings. On the other end is an older woman, who gives Ted what sounds like a secret code phrase: "The window is open." Ted takes off running. Is anyone else as confused as I am?

How I Met Your Mother Episode Recap: "Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap"

We've got so much going on in this week's episode! First, Marshall bequeaths the fourth slap (!) to Ted and Robin. They're psyched about it...until it's time to decide who actually gets to do the slapping. Meanwhile, Lily has daddy issues and Marshall acts completely inappropriately, which leads to Lily's estranged father (Chris Elliott) to show up at their door on Thanksgiving Day. There's a lot to talk about here, so let's get to it!

First of all, my apologies for the lack of a recap last week. I was in sunny Florida all week and didn't get a chance to watch the episode until Saturday. (Which also meant that I missed all of the Internet craziness sparked by "Lorenzo von Matterhorn." Wikipedia, you're no fun anymore.) It was a great episode, though, and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

Moving on to this week...
