First, I want to thank all of you for your kind words, prayers and well-wishes for my mother. It means a lot. She's currently in an aftercare facility and doing well. We've had to add a few more chairs to her room at the facility. There are a few members of the nursing staff who are NCIS fans. My mother's room has become a very popular place on Tuesday nights at 8 pm. I guess word got around that Mrs. Carroll's kid is "Director Vance." I make sure to visit her in the afternoon on Tuesdays. I'd hate to disrupt their Tuesday-night ritual.

Well, I just finished my last day of filming NCIS for '08. There's one more episode (in which Vance will not appear) to be filmed before everyone takes a break for the holidays. I believe that the Vance-centric episode that I mentioned will be filmed mid-January. I'll keep you posted.

I'm having a very good time writing this blog and reading your responses. I didn't write this much when I was in college! In fact, I still owe a couple of term papers to my freshman English teacher from 1981. I'll get right on that, after I finish this entry....
There have been a number of great questions about Vance that I want to address. Funny, when I talk or write about the character that I play on NCIS I think of him as someone else. I could never say "me" or "I" when referring to the character. I had a conversation recently with executive producer Shane Brennan. I love talking to him about the show. As I've mentioned before, I got my start in the theatre, so the relationship between performer and audience is absolutely vital to me. The ability to connect with an audience is the key to a performer's growth and success. We don't film NCIS in front of an audience (though I wish we did).
