Roush on Big Bang Theory
Question: I absolutely love
The Big Bang Theory. I think it is the funniest new sitcom I have seen in years. The chemistry among the five characters is excellent. I am concerned as to what the writers' strike will mean for this show. It got a full-season order, yet it was the first show to be forced into reruns, and it only has eight reruns to air. Do you think this show can survive a long or even a short strike? I would be heartbroken if it was canceled. What is your prognosis for this show and its chances of surviving the strike?

Matt Roush: The prognosis is excellent. It's unfortunate that it had to shut down so quickly, given the nature of constant rewrites during the process of filming a weekly multi-camera sitcom, but it has already proven itself a keeper, even if the show ends up being benched for a while if the strike continues too long. (I could see it being temporarily replaced by one of CBS' comedies waiting in the wings, including the equally funny The New Adventures of Old Christine.) The strike may have hurt its momentum, but The Big Bang Theory is too good to go bust simply because of a situation that's out of its control.
